Border Security Now?

I've remained pretty silent on the whole immigration issue as politicians, bloggers, journalists, aliens, and everyone else weighed in. However, after reading THIS, do we need any more reasons why we need to start enforcing our borders and evaluate our immigration policy?

It's no secret where our weaknesses are with respect to border security. This isn't an issue about Mexican hatred. If Japan was at our southern border and illegal Japanese were coming across just as predominantly, we'd still have this issue. But, this isn't just about Mexicans illegally crossing the border. This is about Al Qaeda using that porous border to sneak into our country. And now, it's about Iranians planting themselves in our country in case we ever go to war with Iran. No longer will the terrorism be limited to targeting soldiers. Our families back home will be in danger.

According to Reuters, "Mohammad Ali Samadi, spokesman for the Committee for the Commemoration of Martyrs of the Global Islamic Campaign, said fresh fears over a possible U.S. attack on Iran's nuclear sites helped attract volunteers during its latest recruitment drive. Some 200 people have registered to carry out operations against our enemies. America and Britain are definitely considered enemies."

The Sunday Times of London, quoting unnamed Iranian officials, reported Iran had 40,000 trained suicide bombers prepared to strike western targets if Iran is attacked.

"The main force, named the Special Unit of Martyr Seekers in the Revolutionary Guards, was first seen last month when members marched in a military parade," the report said.

Quick!! Someone register with Code Pink and get those people in Iran to protest war. Make sure they know where the Iranian military hospitals and civic centers are located. We can provide them with the locations of all Iranian government offices so they don't get lost. I'll try to find the HQ of the Committee for the Commemoration of Martyrs of the Global Islamic Campaign. That's another location they'll want to look at.

For those thinking, "it's only 200", let me offer this: this is 200 IN ADDITION TO the 52,000 volunteers the committee already has signed up since 2004. Take this into consideration along with the $50 million Iran recently pledged to Hamas. President Bush has come out and said that the reports the media are bellowing through their blow holes about our plans to attack Iran are just "wild speculation".

Also remember that the Iranian President has called for Israel to be "wiped off the map". Since the founding of the regime in 1979, Iranian leaders have repeatedly made clear that their official policy calls for the destruction of Israel, the United States and the Western World. So, for people who think we're starting something, remember that they've been using this rhetoric a lot longer than we have.
