PatriotPatriot Don't Read Into It

July 9th, 2006 by Patriot

One of the many probes into the alleged "Haditha massacre" states that "senior leaders of the Marines failed to sufficiently investigate when faced with conflicting information" according to CNN and other reports.

The report blames officers involved with failing to follow through. After the attacks, the report states, the officers should have seen inconsistencies in the reporting and asked more questions. Additionally, the fact that over $38,000 was given to the surviving families should have tipped them off as well that something was amiss.

This news will be touted throughout the media, and already is, that our Marines did indeed kill innocent civilians in Haditha in "cold blood". But, don't read too much into that. No where has any information been released that the Marines are guilty of any wrong-doing besides sloppy accountability. To date, no charges have been filed against the Marines that were involved with the incident in Haditha.

Even the fact that the Marines could have been found negligent for not following up, this doesn't mean that anyone was murdered in "cold blood". That is still Murtha's contention, not ours. The media has the perfect situation in front of them. They get to report on all the atrocities and news coming from the prosecution (for lack of a better word since there isn't a trial or charges yet) and the alleged victims' families. Because this is an ongoing investigation, the Marines involved CANNOT and will not divulge their exculpary evidence (the stuff that will prove them innocent). All they can say and have said is that the Marines are not guilty and acted within established procedures.

Remember, a criminal inquiry into the events in Haditha is being conducted by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which is focusing on the alleged actions of the Marines that day. It is still ongoing along with several other investigations into allegations of civilian deaths at the hands of U.S. forces in Iraq. We are playing right into Zarqawi's previously publicized plan of attack. He set these things in motion long before we took him off this planet.

Don't get me wrong, IF the Marines and Soldiers are found guilty, I want the book thrown at them. IF they are found guilty and the maximum punishment is death, I want death. If they are found guilty and the max punishment is life in prison, I want life in prison. There better be hard labor attached.

However, I'm reserving my judgement because I believe in our Marines and Soldiers and our system of justice. I realize that we're in a lose/lose situation with these cases in the eyes of our liberal leaders and media. If they're found guilty, the media's and Murtha's outspoken, premature condemnation is proved and they are heroes demanding apologies. If they are found innocent, it's a government cover-up and those same liberals and media demand a recount. In their eyes, there's no way this country is innocent of any wrongdoing in this world. And since our military is the enforcement of that wrong, we can't be doing anything but spreading American hatred wherever we go.

Like I said, we can't win anyway, but I truly hope that our Marines and Soldiers are found innocent so at least they don't have that hanging their heads. It's hard enough dealing with having to kill someone without worrying about going to prison or facing the death penalty for it. Please keep them in your prayers.

Yeah, I pray for these soldiers. I pray that what they are saying about them isn't true. They talk about it in the MSM as if it is fact. Time will tell but I wish they would wait until the facts come out.

well so long as the Pentagon keeps lowering recruiting standards (which effectively lets any cripple, retard, white supremacist or criminal into the militarty) these types of things will happen.

Additionally, a lot of people do not have any faith in the military's handling of anything, much less a murder investigation. so when you say "Remember, a criminal inquiry into the events in Haditha is being conducted by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service" what does this mean? that we shold have confidence in the process?

Many of your fellow Americans are indeed skeptical. is it not our perrogative–as Americans–to feel that way? or do we need to assume a "Rah rah rah, we're #1 and proud" kind of posturing to gain your respect?

All you seem to want to do is for everyone to feel the way you do. and it's not gonna happen.

Jay, you\'re right. And right now you should feel tired because I didn\'t get a lot of sleep last night. At about 1130 this afternoon, I want you to feel hungry and immediately head to Taco Bell because you feel like a new Crunchwrap Supreme. Once you\'re done, I want you to feel full and satisfied.

As for \"a lot of people do not have any faith in the military\'s handling of anything\" comment, maybe you should pay attention to some recent polls. Seventy-three percent of Americans polled from June 1-4, 2006, said they have a “great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in the military, according to Gallup poll. That seems like an aweful \"lot of people\" to me. And that\'s AFTER all the Haditha and other allegations.
