General Peter Pace to be Replaced
June 8th, 2007 by Marcus
I'm not very pleased with this news.
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Friday he will recommend to President Bush that he nominate Adm. Michael G. Mullen to replace Gen. Peter Pace as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff when Pace's term ends in September.
Pace's renomination to another two-year term was widely expected, and his nomination papers already had been drafted.
What reason do we have for replacing Gen Pace? Political weaknes and instant gratification!
Gates said he had intended to recommend that Pace be renominated for the position, but after consultation with senators of both parties, he concluded that the confirmation process would be too contentious.
"This is going to be hard. I don't feel like dealing with it. It isn't going fast enough, either."
Folks, this is war. It isn't a little operation that ends in a few weeks or months. War; it takes time. Reading between the lines, we all know that we Americans and especially Congress is all about the easy way out and instant gratification. That just isn't something that is going to be an option during a time of war. Patience and solid leadership are the keys to winning.
Something else that bothers me about Gen Pace's replacement is his branch of service. I have nothing against the Navy as they give us Marines rides to the fight and I have nothing against Adm Mullen, but we need ground combat experts in the role of Joint Chief. The training they have received in their long careers has prepared them to lead battles like those we are facing in Iraq and Afghanistan. This decision just doesn't sit right with me.
In closing, I would push for a Navy Joint Chief if this were a sea war just as I would push for an Air Force Joint Chief if this was a war of air supremacy. However this isn't, and we need the Marines to take the lead.
Update: Cassandra and Grim offer up a toast to General Pace. I join them and echo Cassandra's words.
Posted in Marcus' War JournalI do not understand this country sometimes.

Not very pleased with that news, here, either.
Salut' Gen. Pace!! A toast and THANK YOU!
As someone just said on the TV (didn't catch his name): (and I'm paraphrasing here)
We have young men and women fighting a tough war in Iraq and Afghanistan and a General with combat experience can't hANDLE A FEW TOUGH QUESTIONS?
I also echo Cassandra's words…A toast to you, Sir!
Cpl M,
I thought the same thing today when I heard that they are going to replace Gen. Pace. It seems like just yesterday that he took the reigns to this job and now they are going to put someone else in his place. Also they were talking about what a good job that he is doing. I'm nervous too about this other guy but I hope he works out for the good of the troops and the war effort. Seems like politics plays a part in alot of decisions these days!
FWIW, the next two positions below Chairman were replaced as well.
We still have a Marine close to the top.
This one is from STRATCOM

But you;re right, it was a matter of convenience for the SECDEF. He didn't want the aggravation of dealing with the moonbats.
General Pace was replaced because the Senate did not want him anymore. He's a piece of right wing christian crap.
Frankly, this stupid man was done in by Gays who no longer are willing to put up with generals who follow a Stone Age religion.
Jim, I highly suggest you do not slander military service members. I also suggest you do not attack Christianity as many of us here are Christians. This is your only warning.
