Here's a Zinger

I've got an idea that I need feedback on. With so many of our Senators and Representatives running around the country poking each other in the eye and lying to America's face, what are we paying them for? The military doesn't have an approved budget, bonuses are nonexistent, and our anticipated pay raise was cut. I suggest that we inundate our representatives with letters and calls demanding a law that prevents these politicians from getting while they are campaigning for a higher office if they are not in their home state or DC. What do you think?

I think you should ADD 1) and not be "entitled" to $10,000 per year retirement after serving ONE term, 2) Having only 18 days R & R a year and 3) their private retirement plan voided and them put on Social Security like the rest of us – who must be lesser creatures than they.
And the health benefits that all of us would love to have, complete coverage the rest of their life, etc.
I want the option in voting for "None of the Above" and if it wins, then they rerun the election but the rejects can't run again.:) AND they can only run for office in a shorter time period, like only 90 days before the election.
Oh, well, I can dream.
The bill sits on President "Worst President Ever" Bush's office desk awaiting his signature. Let's place blame where blame is due.
CF seriously, could you give it a freakin' rest?!?
To quote one of my Marines, "You're like a bad date who won't go home."
And ditto Leta on the rest!
Let's compare pay scales shall we?
Congresscritter makes $165,200 a year. That works out to 13,766.67 per month. (found here)
Highest paid military officer, an O-10 with 20 years of service, he is the ONLY one who matches that at all. (found here) And that is WITH the projected pay raise included and the Congresscritter's pay is from LAST YEAR.
Uh-huh.
You're nicer than I – I think that they should have to resign to run for a different office – you know, actually make a committment to the process. For campaigning for reelection, they should have their pay docked.
Of course, I believe in term limits, too.
Congress and the Senate should not be allowed to determine their own pay raises either!!! While all of America struggles, THEY can vote themselves a raise when ever they think they deserve it. I think the American people should get a say in our undistinguished representatives salaries. It should be commensurate with their job performance like everyone else in the country. NO more golden parachutes for them. No more big pay outs when they retire. All this while the Soldiers suffer. Who determined that Harry Reid's job was worth more pay or his life was worth more in perks then an American Soldier??
And if Congress and the Senate would put forth a bill that wasn't loaded down with crap and tied to some arbitrary timetables that spell suicide for the progress that has been made in Iraq, perhaps the President COULD sign it. One of these days CF you need to buy a pair of long pants and act like a big boy.
sue:
There is no arbitrary timetable in the bill sitting on the chimp's desk.
CF~
You are right that there aren't any timetables, this time. However, someone managed to sneak in a "poison pill" that would open up Iraqi assets residing in US financial institutions to lawsuits for things Saddam did. Tying up those funds, potentially for years, would be just as bad as pull-out timetables.
CJ~
I think you're on to something here. Obama is a first-term Senator, and he's spent pretty much that entire time running for President. If I was one of his constituents, I'd be pissed…
I agree with what Sue said — especially to CF!
Hmmm. Well, then maybe both sue and carole can take it upon themselves to point out where, in the current bill sitting on Bush's desk, there is a provision for arbitrary timelines for withdrawl from Iraq.
Well, traveling the country sure gets me behind. CF, for a guy that uses the word "Facts" in his name, I would think that by now you'd actually use some. Nothing is sitting on Bush's desk. In your zeal to baselessly slam our President, you resort to lies and defy your own name. "The Worst Ever" House Democrats have the bill on their desks!! Please keep your partisanship within at least arms reach of some truth.
CJ:
From an obtuse technical viewpoint, you are correct in saying the bill is not sitting on the chimp's desk – BECAUSE THE CHIMP VETOED THE BILL.

Accordingly, if what I have said here constitutes a "lie," then I guess you will have no problem finally acknowledging that BushCo lied the US into war with Iraq!
We KNOW he vetoed the bill. I covered it on this site. We're not morons. And what you said was an obvious lie. But, since "BushCo" didn't lie to get us into Iraq, I won't acquiesce to your request. I've also exhaustively covered these "lies" you would like everyone to believe. It makes for great soundbites and the oft-quoted comment on a blog, but holds no validity.
Well said C.J.. I keep thinking over and over your question' "What are we paying these politicians for?" If anyone shoild have a pay cut it is Congress in Washington and not the members of our armed forces. One last thing. If Sen. Obama thinks paople forget what he said over the past few months , he's in for a big surprise. He has denied the success of the surge and he said that America should not prevent a genocide in Iraq. he is totally wrong. Respectfully, Tom Folan
Hum…well along with a pay cut, I think they need to be required to do x number of hours of free community service (the main purpose of which would be to reduce their free time for campaiging since that's all they do in life.)
Oh, yea…and any time spent doing community service within sight of a camara will double their required time.
CF, I believe the last bill that went to the President's desk did have timetables for pull outs in it and that had to do with why it was vetoed. You're ignorant use of disparaging remarks against the President for the thrill affect that you get from it just shows how incredibly immature you really are. As CJ pointed out, the "Facts" in your name belies anything that comes out of your mouth, and every one here has heard your little comments till we truly can't stomach them any more. You have nothing of worth to say. You have proved that over and over and over again. Just look at your posts. No "Facts" what so ever. Just derogatory condescending remarks and your twisted political garbage. But lucky you, first that CJ has the patience of a saint and by his good grace allows you to still be here, and second, you get to live in a country where your filth is tolerated, and you have that right to say it because of great men like CJ who provide, with their very lives the blanket of freedom you so comfortably sleep in peace under every night while you degrade everything they fight for and stand for. Lucky for you.
Well, sue, I just don't know what to say other than ask that you point out to me in the current bill where there appears an artificial timetable for withdrawl. Otherwise, I guess Miss Ladybug and I are stuck with trying to prove a negative to you, a rather difficult task, indeed. Bottom line, there is no timetable in the current bill, and if you did some research on your own you would come to that realization.
CF, you have been on here long enough to know that Sue does more "research on your own" than any of us. I really don't think you have ever done any "research on your own". All we ever get from you are "Move On Dot Smear" talking points. One would think with a moniker like "CriticalFacts" that you would actually want to contribute to a conversation rather than resort to name calling and distortion of facts.
Seems like you are agreeing with Miss Ladybug in that they inserted a Poison Pill into the Bill. One might think that someone interested in "CriticalFacts" would have addressed the actual "CriticalFacts" in this case. The Poison Pill !!!
Oh do please pardon me for making a mistake CF. The Good Lord knows you have never done so. I missed some of the news during my recovery. But the stupidity of the Democrats in Congress and the Senate for what they DID try to sneak into the bill is still the same. Undermining a fledgling government struggling to right itself is not the answer CF. And I did notice that you didn't dispute the rest of my post.
I'm only interested in the facts, sue, not a bunch of ad hominen attack. Thanks for agreeing, however, that the current bill contains no provision calling for withdrawal, as is the case. We can move on from here and find additional points of common ground, I am certain of that.
"I'm only interested in the facts, sue, not a bunch of ad hominen attack."
If indeed that is the case CF then I am looking forward to your future posts minus all the name calling and other nauseating garbage that you put in for your own personal jollies. It will be refreshing for 2008 to be devoid of all your nonsense.
