Military Blog – A Soldier's Perspective

CJCJ I've Got Your Back, Obama (An Open Letter To the Extreme Right)

July 17th, 2008 by CJ

I know I've been attacking Obama on military and national security issues a lot lately. So, I thought I'd take a moment to attack a few of my fellow conservatives who are attacking Obama. Keep in mind this isn't a conservative blog. It's a military blog. I happen to have conservative tendencies, but I'm NOT a Republican. I will NEVER be a Republican. Naturally, my blog is going to look that way because my conservative/libertarian tendencies are still mine. However, I need to put a stop to some misinformation that I receive on a regular basis about Obama. There are plenty of reasons NOT to vote for Obama, but the following is NOT some of them.

I'm a little fed up with this "Obama is a Muslim" stuff. He's not. Plain and simple. How many times does he have to say it? How many people have to research it and come to the same conclusion? We are a free nation and we have both legal and God given free agency – the right to choose. This flawed argument that just because his father or mother or whoever in his family was once/is a Muslim does not make Obama one. I grew up Catholic, but that doesn't make me one. I'm not. I don't care what the Muslim faith says about what makes a Muslim, Obama has CHOSEN a different faith. Besides, even if he WERE a Muslim, I don't care!! Do we not pride ourselves on religious freedoms as well? This country screwed up not voting for Romney because he is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints – a "Mormon". Now we're stuck with two crappy choices. To NOT vote for Obama because he may be a Muslim is preposterous and ignorant.

"I'm not voting for Obama because Hezbollah endorsed him." Obama does not have control over who does and does not endorse him. I'm pretty sure that the KKK and other white supremacy groups are endorsing McCain over Obama. Should you not vote for McCain because of it? No, unless he actively soliciting and accepting donations from such groups (not individuals, which is hard to control). The reason terrorist organizations and rogue states support Obama is because he's NOT Bush. Bush is killing the terrorism business. It's harder to make a good living as a suicide bomber anymore and they want that to change. Don't NOT vote for Obama because some lunatic fringe extremist jihad organization likes him. It's absurd.

He swore in on a Bible like everyone else, not a Koran. It's well documented in both video and photo format. It's not a Koran wrapped in a Bible cover or a photoshop. Obama swore in on a King James Version Bible! Get over it.

Obama loves his country. He says the Pledge of Allegiance all the time. He knows the words to the National Anthem. He's learned that he should place his hand over his heart during the National Anthem, but that's not because he's unpatriotic. It's because he's ignorant! Yes, I'm talking about that famous photo of Obama believing his heart is in his pants in Iowa! Not once during the National Anthem did he place his hand over his heart, though he did mouth the words as they were poorly (so poorly) "sung". Have you heard that? Almost as bad as Rosanne Barr's rendition back in the 80's. Terrible. So, just because he forgot to cover his heart or was mesmerized by that terrible rendition of our Anthem doesn't mean he is unpatriotic.

Bottom line: Stop plaguing my inbox with this stupid drivel if you're responsible. There is plenty to attack both candidates on but these aren't some of them. Give the man some credit and do a little research.

  1. Desert Sailor says:

Votes should be backed up by a candidate's platform that YOU have researched. Go to their websites and view their issues and standings. Check their voting record in the Senate.

Turn the TV off. Barely scan the print headlines. Do your own work to make the best choice you feel is right.

    Simple. Then go vote!

Well said, Desert Sailor! So true!

    Good post!

  4. CG says:

    I agree…

This country screwed up not voting for Romney because he is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints – a "Mormon".

  5. Donna says:

I liked Romney too, wish they had voted him in. Oh well can't take back what's done. Maybe McCain will pick him for his VP !

  6. Steve says:

    "I grew up Catholic"

Me too, brother! 12 years of Catholic school.

  7. Flo Banks says:

Okay, stop what you're doing, visit Yahoo, and put in "Dangerous Radicals of the Religious Right" by historian Dave MacPherson. Flo

  8. Chuck says:

Hmmm… I agree to agree, and disagree.

I disagree in that I think you are glossing over some legitimate issues. He my be a Christian "Now", but his name is Barack Hussein Obama, he was raised in a Muslim Country, and studied the religion in a Muslim school. His family is full of Muslims and you can not deny that his perspective of that religion, and that of the general American populations is quite different. And we are at war with a foe that is predominantly…Muslim. Not Morman or Catholic… You don't care I know, but I think you may very well should. Now what this will end up meaning, is any body's guess, but it is a truth nonetheless.

Weather the KKK endorses McCain is… whatever? The KKK though certainly holds closer values about God and Country to me than fucking Hezbollah! Why do you think Hezbola endorsed him? So its not the endorsement in and of itself, but the underlying meaning of what he stands for to Hezbollah!

I think at this point the cat will do whatever, and I mean whatever he has to do to win the GE! He did start this deal way left, refusing to wear "that" pin, then changed that, and everything else that gets him criticized?!?! So I do feel like with the pin, and the church, and his best fried Rev Wright, his patriotism is definitely in question! At least the kind of patriotism I think of when I think of America!

And then, I agree with you on the multitude of other reasons not to vote for him as well!

The %u201CMuslim issue%u201D as regards Obama is in my mind less about any adherence to that particular faith either past or future, as it is in his apparent inability to give a consistent report of his history. His continuation of obfuscating his own personal heritage is on par with expert %u201CBill Clintonesque%u201D parsing and denial; and renders his trustworthiness of a dubious quality. The question you pose, %u201CHow many times does he have to say it?%u201D is perhaps mildly off the mark. The question that bothers me is why his current denials are so fervent?

If memory serves, it was Hillary Clinton%u2019s election team that brought forth questions about Obama%u2019s Muslim background. This was picked up in a January 16th, 2007, story by the conservative Insight Magazine which was basically summed up with the question, "Are the American people ready for an elected president who was educated in a Madrassa as a young boy and has not been forthcoming about his Muslim heritage?" By the 23rd Obama%u2019s campaign offered the retort, "All of the claims about Senator Obama's faith and education raised in the Insight Magazine story and repeated on Fox News are false. Senator Obama was raised in a secular household in Indonesia by his stepfather and mother. Obama's stepfather worked for a U.S. oil company, and sent his stepson to two years of Catholic school, as well as two years of public school." His campaign also offered, %u201CTo be clear, Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim."

So OK%u2026. That is all well and good however it is inconsistent with Obama%u2019s own autobiographical work %u201CDreams of My Father,%u201D wherein he states, "In Indonesia, I had spent two years at a Muslim school, two years at a Catholic school. In the Muslim school, the teacher wrote to tell my mother that I made faces during Koranic studies." By his own admission, Obama did attend a "Muslim school" and as required he engaged in "Koranic studies." In addition releases from Obama%u2019s own campaign his sister, Maya Soetoro, stated that Obama did in fact attend the Mosque with his family, "for big communal events not every Friday."

This begs some questions. Are the public schools in Indonesia all Madrassas that require Koranic studies? If not, why use the parsing, %u201Cpublic school?%u201D Why such an ardent attempt to distance himself in America%u2019s eye%u2019s from any notion of Muslim influence in his early life?

Clearly, what emerges here is cumulative dishonesty on Obama%u2019s part as well as a disposition to doubt the capacity of the American people to be other then bigots not to be trusted with the full-and-complete truth as regards his early childhood influences.

This issue does not revolve around religion as much as character.

  10. Steve says:

"Are the public schools in Indonesia all Madrassas that require Koranic studies?"

A can't answer that but I do know what is considered a public school in Italy and Ireland would be considered a Catholic school here. Crucifixes in the classrooms and all.

I doubt Indonesia has separation of church and state.
