Economic Stinkulus
February 2nd, 2009 by Admin
Great googly-moogly! $1.2 trillion when it's all said and done. You caught that, right? TRILLION!! The money will go to private businesses who will become beholden to the government from that point on if we "save" them – Socialism! Have you contacted your Senators? I did. Not only did I tell them to vote against it, but I told them not to vote for ANY stimulus package, especially if the money is going to the private businesses.
Look what happened to the last stinkulus packages. They did NOTHING to stimulate the economy. Now, the President and Congress is telling the CEOs how to run their companies. When they can and cannot make profits, how much in profits they should make, how much the CEOs should get in bonuses and even how much they should be paid. Democrat Claire McCaskill from Missouri even proposed that CEOs of firms receiving taxpayer money shouldn't make more money than the President!
The nerve of our Socialist leaning Senator! That is the very definition of Socialism – government control over private enterprise. If the President is so concerned that he doesn't make as much money as a CEO, maybe he's in the wrong line of work!
Our government is clamping down bit by bit on our freedoms. Is it right that the CEOs of these companies are getting millions in bonuses when you and I have "bailed" them out? Not at all, but it's also not the government's position to run private businesses. Yet, little by little our Democratically led Congress and Executive Branch of government are intruding into our lives and usurping our authority and rights as citizens. The government owns a large chunk of banks. They own a large chunk of the real estate markets now. And they're looking to own the large financial and automobile industries as well.
But, what's even more surprising are the number of CEOs actively SEEKING government money and inviting these socialist policies. I strongly urge everyone to PLEASE read the Constitution and see how out of control our Congress and President have become with this. Our elected officials must hear our voices (even if those voices are in favor of more irresponsible spending).
And check out this email I got from barackobama.com urging me to support this legislation:
The stakes are too high to allow partisan politics to get in the way.
That's why I've consulted with Republicans as well as Democrats to put together a plan that will address the crisis we face.
I've also taken steps to ensure an unprecedented level of transparency and accountability. Once it's passed, you will be able to see how every penny in this plan is being spent.
Interesting how the partisans of this bill so far have been the Democrats. Every single "Aye" vote the bill received in the House was by Democratic Representatives. But, CJ, EVERY Republican voted against it, so isn't that partisan? It would have been had not a few Democrats also voted "Nay". Therefore, the "Nay" votes were the bipartisan side.
Secondly, did anyone else notice that last paragraph. We'll get to see "how every penny" will be sent "ONCE IT'S PASSED". Interesting? If it's about "transparency and accountability", how about we see how every penny is going to be spend BEFORE it is passed! We have no choice on how the money spent once it becomes law. So, while the untrained, ignorant masses may have fallen for that "slight of hand", I won't.

I got a couple of emails with comments like this It sure did not take them long to get out of control. 350+ Billion for STD research????!!!!!! We are putting our grandchildren into debt for crap like this?
Is this the "CHANGE" the public was suckered into believing?
Un-freakin-believable. They are going to stimulate the economy by giving tax breaks and tax refunds to people that do not pay taxes……
Two of the cabinet/staff can't pay their taxes, but get the job anyway….
Boy, just can't wait to see what happens next. Ok, not done yet… Soap Box
200 Billion for contraception for teens
50 Billion for off road bicycle trails
20 Billion for off road 4×4 trails
200 Billion for the national endowments for the arts
"CHANGE"! To what? Socialism? Have we forgottten what has made this the greatest country on Earth?
Mickey,
Agree, thanks for pointing these things out. I think there is much more worse in this stimulus that is even far worse than the above! We need to contact our congress reps and fight against this package being passed!
The above comments were also from one of our great military leaders. "this is from a mom: I'm sitting in a house on a military post, and it scares the living bejeesus out of me. My son is supposed to be deployed this year — what he is supposed to use for ammunition . . . spit wads?"
Gosh, 1.2 trillion is about the same amount we flushed down the toilet in Iraq. What next?
Since we haven't spent $1.2 trillion, I guess we don't know. Nice try though. You may need to reconsider your name, CF.
I disagree:
washingtonpos...0702846.html
You vaunted Washington Compost theory doesn't hold water. This "stinkulus" package will add another trillion + dollars to the debt in a matter of minutes, while the Iraq war "expenses" will be measured over decades!! Many of the costs that the Compost notes are costs of treating veterans as a result of the war. If that is the case, we need to also add in the costs of the American people who will need treatment for years to come because of their economic situation.
Sorry, doesn't work. Nice try.
Really CF, is that what it cost to kill my son I always wondered about that. and now my grandchildren and thiers and more will still be paying for this 1.2 trillion maybe until the year 2500. Wow what a pleasant thought.
Mickey:
It's actually worse than you think.
Since taking office in 2000, Bush managed to see the national debt rise from 5.7 to 10 trillion dollars by, among other things:
1. Lowering taxes on the rich;
2. Invading Iraq instead of winning in Afghanistan-Pakistan; and
3. Deregulating Wall Street speculators.
Given that slate of budget-busting decisions, why are you so uptight about a mere 1.2 trillion more?
CF, I love your liberal website plagiarism here. Your "facts" come from a liberal site that blames Bush solely (while giving Congress a complete pass) for the debt. You notice how 9/11 has absolutely NOTHING to do with your estimates?! It's telling really. I've already provided a graph for you and explanation about the debt and amazing how it started to come back down after Bush passed his tax cuts and then amazingly starts rising rapidly in 2007. Wonder what the significant event in 2007 was? Oh yeah, Democrats took control of Congress. Silly me. It has gone up over 600% faster than the previous years.
Fact: Bush 41 and the Republican Congress increased the national debt about two trillion dollars.
Fact: Clinton and the Republican Congress increased the national debt about a trillion dollars (eight years).
Fact: Bush 43 and Republican Congress increased the national debt 2 trillion dollars (six years and included a national emergency and two wars).
Fact: Bush 43 and Democrat Congress increased the national debt 2 trillion dollars (only two years)
Fact: Obama and Democrat Congress increased the national debt over one trillion dollars (in only two weeks)
cj:
I have to hand it to you. You certainly know how to put lipstick on a pig!
And Clinton deregulating mortgage lending had NOTHING to do with the budget-busting!
CF, yes, I am uptight about all this new spending for many generations to come will have to pay for this. and you certainly have s&^t for brains.
Mickey,
Hmmm. Given that neither of us are particularly pleased with all the spending going on, I guess that means we both have s&^t for brains, at least insofar as we apply your criteria to the situation.
We all should be uptight about this situation. What's missing is an explaination along with the expecation of transparency.
Bush's main problem was that he sent some of us to go to war and the rest of us to go shopping. He made no provisions for a very expensive war that we are involved in.
Obama's problem is all the transparency he promised is not getting delivered. He's letting the media spew whatever they want out of this, most of it cheap shots.
Some of the readers may not be aware of what the government pays for on a regular basis. Many of these programs can't be stopped on a whim.
NY-David
If Bush's spending on the war got us into this, how does spending more money on abortions overseas help us get out of it? Just asking …
Exactly! And if Bush's war got us into this, why not just pull out immediately if this is truly to root cause of our problems?
SSGT, I'll have a go at explaining it to you. The previous administration advocated fighting AIDS without teaching birthcontrol and contraception because the subject was against the many faith-based organizations that got the contract and got funded. This, by all accounts, is like trying to put out a fire by spitting into it.
My main premise above was simply there was no fiscal preparation for going to war. This isn't fun and make one unpopular. just ask Carter once he figured out how much the Vietnam war debt was.
NY-David
I would just add it's not the federal government's responsibility to teach me about birth control and contraception! And if they did, I'd ignore them anyway. This is what families and non-profit organizations are for.
I can't seem to reply to CJ's remarks below so I will do it here. Agreed, I don't need the government to teach me about birth control. Then please, Mr. Fed, don't waste my tax dollars saying that you are helping to fight the AIDS crisis in Africa, by saying the only tool in your kit is a bunch of abstinence only pamphlets.
NY-David
I would love to speak to my Senator about this! But because Minnesota can’t seem to control ballots properly at the polls, I don’t have a Senator yet. I won’t even get into the fact that multiple Democrat precincts reported significantly more votes than registered voters, how duplicated ballots were not properly handled and counted only God knows how many times, how Franken votes miraculously appeared from the trunks of cars days after the polls closed, and on and on and on…
But like you CJ, I am dead set against any of this “bailout” and/or “stimulus” BS.
1.2 Trillion! And then you have Pelosi insisting that this is just a “down payment.” It is truly sad, but it increasingly looks as if the “final payment,” as in any other times in history that Liberty and Freedom called to be protected, will be made in blood.
No need to answer that. He doesn't really care what you propose and just wants something else to argue with us about.
No. Actually, I am curious as to what you folks propose to end the financial dilemma in which we find ourselves. What would you propose?
I know CJ. But I have danced with CF in the past, I know what he is all about, just another Mr. Sparkle.
esoterik says:
"But like you CJ, I am dead set against any of this “bailout” and/or “stimulus” BS."
Well, then, what do you propose?
First – the alarmist “neo-Marxists” in our government need to knock off their “sky-is-falling panic mongering.”
Secondly – certainly some chips will fall, the government needs for the most part to stay out it; this is how our system cleans itself of rot. At this point in history there is quite a bit of rot due to needless government interference.
Thirdly – the government needs to clean its own house.
a) Freeze all pay to Congress, the President and his cabinet. It’s supposed to be a public service, not a career. If they want to place a cap on income, then they can cap their own, none of it can be earned from actions as a politician while holding office, and if they have any income from sources that can in any way be construed as constituting a conflict of interest they are not only disallowed a vote on those particular issues, they cannot not serve on committees of sub-committees dealing with them or even participate in discussion on the issues involved.
b) Abolishing the Carter inspired foolishness of allowing GSEs to accept subprime mortgages.
c) Expelling absolute incompetent tools (at best) such a Barney Frank and Chris Dodd from office holding them to account for fraud and violation of the public trust would be a good start.
d) Institute term limits and the “line item” veto, and eliminate all and any “ear marks.”
Forth – spend an appropriate amount of time actually thinking about what should be in a “stimulus” package if indeed there should be any, as opposed to cobbling together a neo-Marxist wish list of programs that the American people have not supported over the last 40 years, and trying to ram it down our throats disguised as a “stimulus” package in order to perform the most egregious power grab in US history.
Fifth – if (and that is a big if) a stimulus package is indeed prudent, filter it through the American people by giving it directly to them in the form of a rebate in the exact amount of taxes they have paid for a given amount of years. They can buy down their unsecured debt, their mortgages, or put it into savings, (in which case it all goes to the banks legitimately), or they can go and buy and consumer items, or they can buy tangibles such as gold and silver and sit on it. The point is, it is our money and should come through us.
This is by no means a well thought out or comprehensive plan, but it is better than the dung sandwich Obama is trying to hand us.
I guess I can delete my long drawn out explanation as I can't improve upon this. The government simply needs to stop giving money to private businesses, lower the corporate tax burden which gives these businesses more money to hire, and stop taking irresponsible "retreats" on taxpayers' backs! I'm speaking to both Repugnicans and Dumbocrats there!
I love your “long drawn out explanations.”
And I would concur with your “speaking to both Repugnicans and Dumbocrats” comment.
Take a look at this over on Hot Air.
Whoa! What happened to that link? Are you auto re-directing?
I'll try this way.
Take a look at this over at Hot Air.

The Independent council says this "shame-u-less" bill will do for the economy what nothing being done would have. In other words…it's a useless bill that will just bog us down with debt. But of course you won't hear the Obama loving media break that down to the illiterate public. We are also hearing talk that another trillion bailout bill is in the works via Obama, for the banks, since they couldn't get it right the first time. So that is a total of two and a half trillion from the tax and spend happy democrats for us to choke down. WHat a wonderful thing to pass down to our children and grandchildren, a debt so high that they can remember the Obama administration for, long after he is gone.
I hope people wake up soon. With the passing of this economic stimulus bill anyone who believed that Obama line of "95% of Americans will get a tax break" can think again. We will all be taxed, higher, longer, and with nothing to show for it but a few signs on a street lamp in Chicago that say "Hope and Change."
Just curious which stimulus bill you read that included tax hikes? It actually has tax cuts and a lot of stuff that was going to be/needed to be done anyway. Perhaps the Minnesotans can get their bridge repaired finally.
When you get done telling me which stim bill you read, then you can tell me what Esoterik is drinking that inspires his diatribe of suggestions. Its very nice to say such things, but I prefer practical solutions rather then pipe dreams. You will recall that Barney Frank was democratically elected. Although he doesn't inspire me much, let's not lose our Constitutional values over someone you happen to disagree with.
Sound like a plan??
NY-David
You will recall the Blagojevich was democratically elected. What is your point?
What other suggestions in my “diatribe” were in your esteemed opinion “pip-dreams?”
Taking time to give a bill comprised of a historically monumental expenditure of current and future “revenue” due and diligent consideration is somehow not practical enough for you?
Do you perceive the swelling of federal bureaucratic slush funds to unprecedented levels as opposed to placing that same money directly into the hands of those that earned it in the first place is a “solution?”
You have no faith in the free market system to correct itself?
You think our politicians are worthy of being paid, or should be allowed to engage freely in conflict of interest activity?
You think term limits or a line item veto would be a bad thing?
What are you drinking in New York there David? Kool-Aid?
Ummm, a stimulus this large will be paid by us taxpayers. And in order to get it paid, we will have to suck up a higher amount of taxes. Paying 750k for a skateboard park, is that gonna stimulate the economy? I think not. There is a whole bunch of pork in this stimulus, a lot of special interest bs that has no business being added into this. If the government were serious about fixing the economy, and helping middle America etc. out, they would right a bill that addressed only necessary issues, and refuse to add even one dollar in pork. I think these n'er do wells owe us, the American public whom they are supposed to answer to, not the other way around as they seem to think, a real effort at fixing what THEY screwed up in the first place. None of the one's who took money from the financial institutions that went under should even be in office anymore, they have proved they are not worthy to act on our behalf in any realm.
I agree, there is some stupid stuff in this bill. Much of it is stuff that was going to be done anyway, just being advanced sooner to get people back to work and paying taxes and (you guessed it) paying for this monstrosity.
