The Soldier as a System… is it Hype?
May 24th, 2009 by BrokeSnake
A story ran in the New York Post… when you quit laughing I will continue.
The subject of this story is the Soldier of the Future.
I read it and it is full of the year 2030, with us soldiers in "IronMan" suits and 737's with lasers in the nose cones. It makes for a cool story, I will admit, but it is hype?
What visions were our Vietnam era brethren given about how the soldier of today would appear? I often wonder that when I read these pieces of the projects our military is said to be working on. For one, over the past several years, there has been a rifle that looks like something out of Starship Troopers that was going to quickly replace the M16 and M4. Hasn't happened. We still use the Abrams, and for good reason. We still have a fleet of F16s and F15s and F18s, but have scrapped the F22, for what, the JSF thingy?
Please, I am calling out the Vietnam vets to let me know if there are parallels to the hype or is some of this really going to happen?
