You Served Radio Show – 2 Jul 09
July 2nd, 2009 by Admin
Hey, everyone. I hope you'll join Troy and me for tonight's You Served radio show. We have a great group of guests and military-related news items that will be covered tonight.
Before I tell you about the show, head on over to our Ebay Store and look at this week's offerings. You may not know that 100% of money from winning bids goes directly to Fisher House, a military charity that provides "a home away from home" that enables family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time — during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury. Check out the store for new stuff each week here: http://stores.shop.ebay.com/userved__W0QQ_armrsZ1 or just do a store search for "userved" at a later date. Even if you don't particularly WANT what we're auctioning each week, bid on it for your deployed or serving hero!
On tonight's show we have arranged another awesome lineup. First up is Todd and Derek from Vision Strike Wear to talk about how they are using their new company to give back to support troops. Vision Strike Wear offers an excellent selection of military-themed clothing and donates a portion of each sale to military charities.
Sonny Attea from Jam In The Valley (www.jaminthevalley.com) which takes place this weekend in Varysburg, NY, is next in the lineup. Jam in the Valley is a country music concert and fireworks celebration of Independence Day. Billed as a family style event, Jam in the Valley has also become known as a pretty wild party. A portion of the proceeds from this event are donated to designated local volunteer fire departments and other charitable organizations. Guests at this years event are Billy Currington, Big&Rich, Cowboy Troy (not Cowboy Crush), and Gretchen Wilson.
In the second hour we'll talk to Lindy Kyzer from the Army Public Affairs Office on their outreach efforts to military bloggers as well as their efforts in the new media arena. We'll also talk about the Army's recent decision to allow Soldiers to access social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, and others on military computers.
Finally, we'll speak to Taryn Davis, Founder/President of The American Widow Project (http://www.americanwidowproject.org/). The American Widow Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to the new generation of those who have lost the heroes of yesterday, today and tomorrow, with an emphasis on healing through sharing stories, tears and laughter………Military Widow to Military Widow.
Won't you join us tonight? You will NOT be sorry. The show kicks off live at 7pm EST at www.blogtalkradio.com/youserved or at www.youserved.com.

Greetings,
On behalf of Atlas and Co., a non-fiction publisher of non-fiction, I recommend reading Last Journey: A Father and Son in Wartime, by Darrell Griffin Sr. His son, Staff Sergeant Darrell "Skip" Griffin Jr., was killed in action on March 21, 2007 during his third tour in Iraq. At the time of his death, Skip was writing a personal account of the war in an effort to rationalize the havoc surrounding him and his fellow soldiers.
In honor of his son, Mr. Griffin Sr. traveled to Iraq to witness for himself the lifestyle of a soldier. Combined with his son's sensitive, at times philosophical correspondence, Mr. Griffin Sr. provides a unique and intimate perspective on war that is unknown to many Americans.
We hope you will share our tremendous enthusiasm for this work that commemorates the life of a patriot.
Best regards,
Peter Desrochers
I always listen to the podcast the next day CJ. This was one of the best programs to date. I got a little choked up when that young female Sergeant went to the WWII memorial to leave her Unit Patch. Hearing how the WWII veterans embraced her was very moving.
It reminded me of that scene in Kyle Hausmann-Stoke's movie, 'Now, After' when he goes to the VA. I've been promoting his site but I noticed that you can't access the films any more.
Anyway, thanks CJ, Troy and Marcus for these great shows.
