Admin BUMP: MILITARY TELEX communication (A Nigerian Scam)

August 14th, 2009 by Admin

BUMP: I wanted to bump this because this is getting worse. As you can see from the comments, this is an active scam that people need to be aware of. In addition to comments, I continue to receive emails about what to do if you are targeted.

Every now and then I feel like I've made a difference in someone's life as a result of something I've written on this site. I started the Nigerian Scam posts to poke fun at these and bring attention to their practices. Well, yesterday I got an email from someone who came very close to being scammed by these people. Thankfully, she found this site and contacted me before going any further. She gave me permission to share her experience and emails since this is a military related one I haven't seen yet.

Email 1

I've highlighted some common indicators that this email or promotion is a scam. Any self respecting company will not send out such unprofessional communication. Additionally, the entire last parage lacks virtually any punctuation – another tip-off. Finally, if a company has to say "all information collected will not be used for any illegal activity", it is probably being used for just that!! This email could easily influence those who are adamant about supporting troops and constantly looking for ways to do so, but don't fall for it.

After responding to the email, our reader got the following email:

Email 2

Telex Inc.

DING DING DING!! All kinds of tipoffs that this is a scam here. Here's how these Nigerian scammers work. They find unsuspecting fools like "Kim Gattis" and nurture a relationship of trust. Then, one day, they come up with a story and ask for their help with a business since they are not in the country. Or they may use a sob story about how they have nothing or they're trying to create change in their corrupt government. The person, in this case Kim, agrees to collect money on their behalf and send it to them later. What this person doesn't realize is that SHE is the one committing fraud.

The last thing these scammers wants you to see is a Nigeria connection. That is why they use American surrogates. The next tipoff is that the sender must send the money via Western Union or some other wiring company. Having to send a payment like any other real business mean they would have to give out an address that can be checked and cross-referenced. Finally, extensive use of all caps in an email is another tip-off. All emails of this sort should come from an official source. These emails came from a Yahoo account, not from a telex.com or similiar official email. Telex Incorporated is an actual company, but does not provide the services mentioned in the email.

Thankfully, this individual did not go beyond giving her name, address, and phone number before finding us. If you find yourself in a similar situation, here is some advice:

1) Do NOT give out any more personal information, especially birthdates and SSN
2) Keep all correspondence, including your responses someplace safe
3) If you receive standard mail at your address from anyone associated with this scam, DO NOT OPEN it. Contact your local FBI office and/or Postal Service Postmaster to initiate charges for mail fraud.
4) If you receive a phone call from anyone associated with this scam, write down the number they are calling from. If you do not have caller ID, call the phone company and ask them to track the call you just received. At a minimum, you should be able to get a number they called from. Give this information to the FBI as well.
5) If you continue to get harrassing calls, change your number.
6) Relax. These people are in Africa and cannot touch you. They may seem scary, but they're 95 pounds of skin and bones living in a mud hut with a recycled early 90's computer trying to get something for nothing. If you ever truly feel threatened, contact the police.
7) NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER send money to anyone that contacts YOU through email if you did not sign up for their service beforehand!! I can't stress this enough. As a matter of fact, don't even do business with anyone contacting you by email.
8) Be aware of anyone claiming to love you and then starts asking you for money. A real man will pay his own way to see you, period. Yes, that goes for those legitimate relationship as well!

    • carole says:

it got worse from there after i refused to send money now this Sgt is saying I can bring this soldier home if I pay for his flight—we all know that's not true and it cannot happen

  2. Ruth Whitton says:

Colonel Collins Gates of the British army in Afghanastan in Kabul. Gain your trust by emailing then asking for MSN. Gain your trust and tell you they are falling in love with you then…….Ask for money, to set up phone system so they can contact you day or night and hear your voice! Started off at £400.00 then £200.00 but told still could not afford this amount, story that daughter in USA has managed to collect £100.00. Please find the rest…….and send to USA.
I am still chatting to this person but not sending any money.

  3. Giordana says:

Oh my GOD!!! lol…I am so incredibly lucky to have found this site!!! I am just laughing my head off right now… I cannot believe it…I went into a dating site and actually managed to find myself two scammers lol, one of them was supposed to get my account number and the other was supposed to communicate with me through army telex…lol…I got both scams at the same time…wow!!!!Well, but don't worry, I never sent any information whatsoever, what i did do was search the internet for more accurate information on these things. Of course the one that asked for my account number and details I knew right then it was a scam, the other one I'm still in touch with him, but of course after this very useful information I won't fall for it…lol. THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH INDEED!!!!

  4. brat says:

Hadn't heard of this one before! I think one of my personal faves is the US soldier who has managed to get hold of some Iraqi gold or some such thing..Needs MY help – send money…blah blah blah….

The other one is the pooooooooor widow whose husband was in some government and stashed gazillions away. But now SHE is dying too and has chosen ME to have her bazillions. Uhuh!

  5. Giordana says:

Just out of curiosity, how can you get in touch with a deployed soldier in Iraq? Can they communicate through video instant messaging? And through phone calls? How do they do it?

    • Kate says:

All I'll say is this, We as an Army community have our ways. The men and women of the armed forces DO have ways to call/email home. No worries!

  6. I am realizing that I have been contacted by one of the scammers. He says that he is an Army Capt. 3rd Squadron, Mosul, Iraq. He has pics of himself (or whoever he is supposed to be). He gave me a very very brief family history (which I suppose is to make him more believable). After the first day of talking, he began saying he loves and such. He is constant with the compliments and begging me to buy the Telex Plan so that we can talk. He has used every ploy to get me to do so. He has tried the "sweet" talk to the "shame" on you talk. I have found a free way to talk, yet he does not even want to try this. I know it is a scam … but HOW do I help stop this type of scam. I know of one girl that has already fallen for his (yes, this very same supposed Capt.) trickery.
I have figured out (through my conversations with this Capt) that he victimizes older, single women. He thinks they are more vulnerable and cusseptable to his lies.
SOOOO .. if anyone know who I can contact or what I need to do to make sure that no one else is a victim to this horrible parlor trick, please let me know.
    Thank you,
    Tiffany H.

I did but the reply back had alot of mispelled words which supprised me and made me think. They are asking for $400 payable through Western Union. Do you think this is legitamite?

      • Janey Allen says:

  8. Tammie says:

I'm glad I found this site as well, I had a Sergeant (I doubt it now) contact from the Army thru myspace and we started chatting on yahoo IM and he told me that in order to talk to him I had get this very same phone service. I thought it was odd when I got the email and it had the mistakes in it, a professional company does not send letters out like that. Thankfully, I didn't respond to the letter and googled the name and found a number of websites warning people of this scam. It is quite pathetic that people impersonate our military personnel who are deployed. They should be prosecuted! And the email I got came from an email account at aol.com.

  9. Tammie says:

In addition, the person who contacted me actually gave me his rank, division, etc and I googled it and found information on it in addition to a photograph of what was supposed to be him. It makes me sick to think that someone would assume the identity of a deployed soldier and do this. Isn't there some kind of law against this?

  10. maritere says:

well i feel harrased by all this people that send thousands of these e mails that i think i will get crazy, does anybody knows how to stop them?????and Sgt jennsmith E/5 im saying hi to you

  11. Diane Rivera says:

Here's a good one, Cpt. Brad Strickland of the U.S.ARMY. requested I make the effort to buy this telsat program, so we could see each other as we talk. I was a fool, and did not do my homework before sending them $910.00 dllrs for this system. Come to find out the system failed due to low reception in my area. Now I'm out $910.00
Later he came up with will since this failed, request for me to come home. you will have to pay $12,500.00 (refunable) with in 48hrs of my arrival to you. Please make your best effort to bring me home, if not I will be deployed to Iraq, where I could be killed in combat. I stated to do some homework where he then got very upset, and started to threaten me. Thanks to me brothe who is the UNITED STATES AIR FORCE, he took it upon himself also do some research, and stopped me before it was too late. thanks to my brother he saved from from a $12,500.00 debit.

  12. karina barrett says:

I have been talking to a captain on a dating site and have got to know him,he sweet talked me right from the get go,then it was " Honey to further our relationship your going to have to contact Texas Telex connection office .So i did and back it came saying yes if you pay £450 and when i told him i could not afford too, then came the sob story!.Ever trick you can think of he tried it ,tried to make me feel bad about him being out there while he was missing me .I have reported it to the FBI ! any suggestions on what i do next ? hes still talking away at me !

    • CJ says:

Karina, notify the Secret Service. They are actually the ones that track this sort of fraud.

      • karina barrett says:

        Hi CJ,

Thankyou as i am in England i was not too sure what to do, i emailed the FBI and as i was suspect about this from the third time i spoke to him i saved the messages and have passed them over to the FBI as well. The next time he comes to chat i will confront him by saying did you know this is a scam and if he starts to make excuses and gos then i will know for sure. And if that happens will notify the Dating site that i meet him on to let them know as well.thanks for the advice CJ

  13. shelly says:

I'm glad I found this site A supposed Jack Williams In herat afganistan was sweet talking me and wanted me to get the telex the emailI was to send to was through AOL I was thinking this whole thing seemed fishy to me and this site proved it.

  14. karina barrett says:

    Hi CJ

Just thought i would give you a update i have found another scammer on Tango wire! same as the last one lol but this time im ahead of their game!

  15. karina barrett says:

    Hi CJ
After comming across by 6th scammer i gathered information and now i have contacted a leading magazine in the UK and after talking to the features editor she is going to to a piece on the scammers that i have come across.Hopefully this article will help others ,just found out that they scammed a woman here out of nearly $20,000!!!! doing my bit as far as i can do,infact i am like a blood hound on them now! lol

  16. lcs says:

I too, have come across Captain Jack Williams supposedly in Afghanistan – but the plot thickens as I have also contact with a Captain Jack Lingo supposedly in Somalia. It is the Jack (in Somalia) who has been urguing me to get the satellite comms for us – so that "we can really be together as I can be there for him whenever he needs me". Like others girls above – I said I didn't have the money and couldn't do it – the replies varied from guilt trips to anger and rudeness, then quick apologies and never ending love. I say the plot thickens, because Jack (in Afghanistan) sent me a photo – strangely received a few days previously from Jack (in Somalia) – when I pointed out that the name on one of the soldier's jacket was Lingo – he laughed and said that was his last name – Captain Jack Williams Lingo. The dating site where I met these guys also had 3 other guys using Jack (in Somalia)'s photo!!! When I pointed this out to Jack (in Somalia) he wanted me to report it and was quite upset. As of now- Jack in Afghanistan hasn't actually asked for anything – but I think I will just wait and see what hapens and when it does !!!! Watch this space. Where should I report this – they are all saying they are american soldiers wanting to return to UK because they have family here.

    • angela says:

Hi I have been contacted by Jack Williams Lingo based in Somalia who wanted me to register for approx £200 so that we can talk through a secure site. Very suspicious so googled and found him here.

I have blocked any further communiction and alerted the authorities about this very nasy person.I have reported this to crimetips@conus.army.mil.

      • Julie says:

Hi I am also talking to this git, captain Jack Lingo, just ask me to set military telex so we can speak. hes been very busy i think. Started chatting on a dating agency, then yahoo messenger. How do they get away with it?

        • lcs says:

          Hi Girls
I reported it to the FBI. Had it logged but i guess they can't do much. I have contacted the dating site where I met these guys DateTheUK.com and they have blocked them – but they still crop up again and again – each time with a slightly different profile – but using the same photos !! Not very clever are they ?? I keep on informing the site and they remove them with gratitude. I am making it my mission to keep browsing and seeking them out – We have to stick together girls – don't be taken in by sweet talk and promises of everlasting love and devotion.
          Linda

      • Nancy says:

Is this the right address to report scams. I just tried it and it said something was wrong with the address.

  17. Donna says:

well guess what there is a new one out there. This time it's afganistan. Have beentalking to Kenneth Brown whise in the Air Force in Afanistan. Told me He loves me nd can't wait to meet me. Well lucky for me I have a few brain sells that function. and desiced to investigate this telex thing as I have sent western union money out before and thought it stange that where I was to send this money to had no Military Information attatched to the name and thought it strange and desiced to look on the net so see what's out there well thank you for being there for me. Won't be getting anything but a nasty letter from me Thanks so much.
    Donna

  18. Christine says:

    Hi guys
I think i mght of met one of those scammers his name is sarg Danny Rogers. I dont know if he is or not but him and i were talking tonight and he mentioned that telex to me, i didnt know what it was so i looked it up and it brought me here. Amagin that lol. He has told me how much he loves me and wants to be with me. How does a person know if they are who they say they are and if they are true.
Him and i have been talking for awhile now he even sent me pics of him in uniform. Am i being stupid for this guy. Then i seen some remarks about him being a scammer on his tagged we are still chatting but his tagged is gone now. Dont worry i'm not giving any of my info out to anyone.

  19. Michele says:

Anyone heard this name used in a scam? Lt. Ken Reed Army?

    • Kelly Hayes says:

      Hi,

Yes I have heard of Lt Col Kenneth Reed. I/M as I write this email. Any time you hear Africa mentioned run for the hills. He told me that he is a widow he has a son that goes to school in Africa. This is not the first time this has happened to me. I met two others on the military site they all are widows and all had kids. I also got one on a site that I was on looking for a roommate when moving to Florida. They also bring up that they are in the texttile and gold business. This Kenneth Reed has tryed to get me to send money for the TS2 and now says if I want to see him for x-mas I need to pay and then will get reimbersed by the government when he gets here. They all have said that they loved me and wanted to marry me. I just got done talking with him. He is waiting for me to come back on to chat more. How do they know so much about these websites. He gave me this website milits2dpt@usa.com. I wrote to them and they sent me the info I needed to send the money and how it works. Ts2 radio sat. He also said that he is in Kabul Afganistan in Camp Eggers. How do they get all this info and were do they get these pictures of all these men. It is really scary. So do I confront him or just block him. I did confront one guy after he told me he was an engineer but is now in the texttile business so I told him that he must have alot of relitives in the same business and I knew what he was up to. He then disappeared. Also have had some tell me that they are a missionary and they run a orphanage and would love to have you been apart of it. Just send money. What a scam. DONOT go to militarysingles.com or now it is called militarycupids.com they just changed the name. I have met them all on that site. I just wante to meet a nice military guy overseas that I could be a friend too as they were over there fighting for our country. I feel sorry for the guys over there that need our support and love, But how do you find the real ones. I love a man in umiform and would like to find the real think. Does any one know a real website to find a real US soldier that I can talk to and maybe have a relationship with. If so please let me know. I am blonde but thank god not stupid. So women beware and good luck on finding a true american hero. Kelly

      • Kelly Hayes says:

I have all his email and i/m he sent me plus pictures should I save them or not. Will not delete until I hear from someone, But it sounds like no one is doing anything about it. I just wrote him and told him that him and his muslim counter parts will burn in hell and said that if he needs money so bad scam Usama Bin Liden. He has money. LOL. So far have not heard back as he told me he is in a meeting with the General. LOL. PS Does anyone know if there is a site where we can meet soldiers overseas for a penpal or maybe more. I would really like to find a real website, But so far I have not found one. I know our soldiers would like to hear from us and to know we are supporting them. Please let me know.

    • Kelly Hayes says:

Could someone get a hold of me please. I just got back my reply from that website that is on my blog. They are saying that this Ken Reed is a true Soldier. They are demanding the money. I think someone important needs to read this. Or let me know
if anyone can tell me what to do with info. Thanks Kelly

  20. Renee says:

Lt. or Lt. Col. Ken Reed, Army, is a ficticious soldier. He also uses the name kapella911.

  21. Julie says:

Re jackwilliams just been on datetheuk and hes still on there, contacted them to backup Lindas report, we do need to stick together on this girls, glad i found this site, made me see im the only one almost taken in by this.

    • lcs says:

contacted the dating site again this time he has been taken off! – but looking through the profiles – we need to keep a check on the photos used – they sign up again with different screen names and slightly different info – also check out romancescam.com for pix used by scammers.

  22. marianne says:

he's back currently on metrodate.com amazing how someone can be chatting online from a war zone.. please use caution when dealing with jack williams lingo

  23. Gladys C says:

The name of the guy that contacted me was Sgt. Harry Button supposedly in Iraq. Asking me to pay $250.00 for a telex communication. And said there was 8 hour difference. You can actually Google it and you will find the exact time difference. I got the better laugh after giving him a claim number to give to the supposed company when in fact I did not send any money. LOL

  24. tracy says:

hi, im currently in conversation with jack williams lingo too, thank god i found this site.

  25. Carolyne says:

    Hi everyone

I have almost been scammed by someone on Date the UK calling himself David Chandler his name on the site is dennyjaayx sent me flowers then asked me to pay for phone service as he is a contractor in Kabul have notified my local police who have taken a statement and have notified the site as well as the US Military as he was using military logo in his email.

  26. brat says:

As any regular reader here can tell you, ANY American military (or British)troops in Iraq or Afghanistan can find ways to call you from there. They don't need your money or any fancy telex system. How do I know this? Because I have had calls from both places by Americans. They have phone cards, and they have access to phone (and computer VoIP) systems.

Tip #1 and 2 and 3 etc. The minute they ask YOU to send them money, they are a FAKE! End of story.

The first time I ever got an email from a "US soldier" asking for money, I reported them to the US military, who then confirmed that this person does not exist. Imagine that!

Bottom line, NO soldier servng anywhere in the world needs YOUR money to call you. Plain and simple..

    Stay vigilant, ladies.

  27. Teresa says:

Anyone ever hear of Sgt James Anderson in this scam

    • HellsGran says:

heard of Captain Morris Anderson in the US army in Iraq, a widow!! a nice looking guy have got pics if you want to compare? Doesn't he mean a widower? what else do you need to know about him?

  28. Teresa says:

how could i find out if a soldier is legit

  29. lcs says:

Jack williams or Lingo is back on datetheuk – this time calling himself matty43. Please be very careful with this guy. Same photos used by several different profile names

  30. lcs says:

Is there anywhere we can share photos of these guys on here – we must protect ourselves and they must be stopped.

  31. agnès says:

i have a question because i have received this telexmilitary@consultant.com and i would like to know if it is a scam address or not !?
because i like the man military (now in Afghanistan Kaboul us army) who give me this address but …. perhaps a scam ?
please perhaps you can help me ?
    thanks for all
i am belgian so my language it is not english ;-)
    bye

    • CJ says:

Agnes, that is a scam! I hate to tell you that, but it's true. Do NOT send any money and I would stop responding to emails. You may want to report the individual to your law enforcement people.

      • Charlotte Ekpaloba says:

I was contacted by someone claiming to be a Sargent Daniel Williamson who asked me to dend wirelessphonet 225 pounds to conect with hin in Iraq was thinking might be scam not sure till I read this artical. Now I feel stupid cos they almost had me conviced was talking to real person.

      • Nancy says:

        Hey CJ,

I have been trying to get Yahoo to look up the address to see if it was valid.

My question is: How in the hell do they get the pictures. I tried to submit my info to the Conus.mil address, but it comes back as an invalid address. Is there another one available.

  32. Ella says:

I got "lucky" too. Met Sgt.George Campbell on one of the dating sites…..Same story, just different name of the phone company (militaryts2telecom). Good thing, I decided to check out internet for related scams….

    • spotty says:

can you tell me is militarys2telecom is real or a scam? and can you tell me have you heard of a lucas avant klice?

      • CJ says:

Spotty, that is a scam as well. Please know that if ANY Soldier, real or fake, asks you to purchase a special communications means, it's a scam. Soldiers have all kinds of access to phones and internet. If they say they're in a remote area, no telecom is going to fix that. Good question though.

  33. Kelly Hayes says:

Lt Col Ken Reed's email address is ken_reed911. How can we stop this. He sent me pics of him self which I am sure it is not him. He has also sent a pic of his son. This is very scary. What do we do? Should I change my email address? Please let me know. Kelly.

  34. Tammy says:

I think that they shouldn't be able to do this at all.. I mean they are trying to take ppl's hard earned money. It's a bunch of crap that they would even try it… To actually get ppl to feel sorry for them,

  35. Tammy says:

If you dont know the person dont answer any more of the emails girl he just wants to you send money…

  36. janice lambie says:

    • lcs says:

sorry to tell you this but YES it is a scam- he will sweet talk you and then hit you for money – it is all nonsense. Please don't be taken in by this guy. He is very good at gaining trust and all the lovely things he says are very believable – Save yourself the heartache now, and don't have anything to do with him. Just read all the other posts about him.

  37. Gina says:

I just put my house for sale on zillow and I received an email from someone who said they were interest in my house, so I was already felt this was a scam so I send him a email with questions and then I received this email what a scam, of course I questioned it when I saw the name if the first place…..

    Dear,

I have received the detailed information concerning your properties. The one am interested to purchase is the residence listed.Am willing and capable to pay for it, but i want to trust you with this confidential proposal. I am very interested in the property and i wish you can give me detailed description of the Property and the relevant information which i need to know of the property.

Before i continue, let me introduce myself to you, I am Captain Eyup Cicek of the N.A.T.O Special coalition force with the United Nation troops in Iraq,on war against terrorism.Presently i am stationed in Al-Basra, Iraq, one of the southern oil cities of Iraq.
I have now in my possession the sum of $8.2 million which was recovered from one of our raids on terrorists camps here in Iraq, because they keep most of their money at home for evil activities which they normally get through illegal deals on crude oil.

Based on the suffering we undergo here some of us do meet such luck. It happened that in our last raid last week we raided one of the terrorist strong base here in Iraq, though some of the men in my unit lost their lives in the fierce attacks, meanwhile, i recovered a box in one of the tunnels with huge sum of money. This box of money have been under my custody and i had to deposit the Box with the RED CROSS OFFICE here in Baghdad informing them that contacts are been made for its safe keeping and and transfer to out of Iraq as my relevant valuables. As the depositor it is under my power to approve whoever comes forth for this money.

So i need someone i can deal with on trust and that is why i contacted you. so If you accept, I will put you forward as the beneficiary/receiver of the Box and then move the box of money to you in Europe first. As a military personnel i cannot parade such an amount or carry it to my country so i need to present someone as the beneficiary.I just need your acceptance and all is done.I have a 100% authentic means of transferring the money through diplomatic courier service to you destination.

Once i confirm your interest to my proposal.and your positive reply i will proceed to register your name as the beneficiary.

If you are interested, then let me know so i can proceed to register the consignment in your name as time is very important to me. I am doing this on trust, you should understand that as a trained military expert I will always be carefully in my dealings so everything is intact. This money is my life and i am willing to give you 30% of the total sum when the money is delivered to you. I wait for your response so we can proceed immediately. In less than 7days the money should be in your safe custody.

The only telephone access we have is radio message which is for our general use and is being monitored, therefore all communication will be via email till i finish my assignment here and fly straight to your country to meet you for my share.Hope i can trust you.

    Regards
    Capt.Eyup Cicek

    • ivo says:

we are real estate company located in Bulgaria. Got almost the same letter, word by word.only difference is the total amount, he said he has USD 6.5 million.told the guy we need a downpayment of USD 1000 and never heard from him again.

  38. Michaela Miller says:

I need advice on the scam . Soldier asking me to set up telephone using usarmys2tel@consultant.com email address. Is this a scam??

An urgent response would be appreciated!!
    Thanks

    • lcs says:

Absolutely a scam! I have heard of Ts2, telex, armytelex, military telex and lots of other so-called secure communications for us girls to speak with soldiers abroad – it is a scam – don't do it!!! You will lose out and have your heart broken as well. They set up a number of emails which look plausible, but are probably them just trying to make it look official – with military logos. I even had a "colonel" congratulating me on "supporting our boys" and offering me a discount when i said i couldn't afford it. It is deinitely a scam. DON'T DO IT

    • Michaela says:

The name of the soldier I was in touch with is Anthony Brian. Very hansome pics with middle eastern looks or maybe he really is south east American?? The pic could be from anywhere. He said he was from Georgia's Tybee Island US. He makes out he is serving in Erbil in Iraq. Said he was 39 but looks younger. He is good at first but the flaws soon start to show.
Would be good to share photos on here if possible. This guy sends dressing up pics with bullet proof vest and then full US uniform as well as more relaxed pics with dog tags showing over a tight blue t-shirt. The green military vest on dressing up pics looks fake though. He didn't get any money but I did send my address details with phone number. He was clever and had me thinking he was paying for it and I only needed to give some of his details and along with mine. Said his visa had expired later so asked if i'd pay. I am a little worried about this and would like to know if there will be any come back??

      Thanks

  39. Claire Martin says:

Anyone been contacted by a sgt.Jason Pendleton through Match.com ?
    HE IS A SCAMMER!
I am still reeling after a 3and a half month relationship.I paid for the phone line, believing it was a security risk for him to have a normal phone in Iraq.He called me every day, emailed AND used msn, until I was brainwashed by his affection.
I was about to pay for his "relase"on leave, had filled in some forms which when i looked closely it had typing errors and used a very childish font…not as expected by u.S. defense.
why dont the dating sites warn of the danger signs?
    ie:
widowed, soldier, with one child, falls in love in a month, cant get access to funds when on tour. etc etc..
I spoke to American Embassy in the uk and a really helpful chap told me it was all a scam.
trouble is, I want to know ,WHO WAS THE SOLDIER WHO'S PHOTOS I FELL IN LOVE WITH!?!1

    • karen hill says:

hi, i fell in love with the same photo's didnt send any money though as i dont have any. but yeh i guessed it was a scam as nice as he seemed

    • Anne says:

      Hi

Can you contact me as I have just started speaking to someone who has asked me to register with some phone company to talk to him.

  40. Kim Cundliffe says:

Thank goodness I've seen this site just confirms that my gut feeling was true.
Has anyone heard of a Sgt, Brad Stanford, US army based in Iraq?? He contacted me thru a local dating website on my first day of joining, it took me a couple of days to reply to his supposedly private e-mail address, chatted for a week thru Yahoo IM, and then bang said it would so lovely to hear my voice blah blah blah, so he wanted me to send an e-mail to MILITARY CONNECTION wirlessphonet@usa,com, which I did, asking for details on how to obtain secure line to a friend in Iraq in Camp Adder tallil, they responded with his name and rank on it, I didn't mention name first or last, that's when I started waking up, and also asking me for £240 to set this line up payable to Western Union to a agent SARAH SMITH.
I phoned customer services and they were brill, and basically said "don't do it" sounds like an illegal transactions in the making.
Now I was so alerted, have still been chatting to this so called Brad and said to him about this, and he blames the IT men out there, and says he smells a rat ha ha, bet he does, now I still chat to him, it gives me half an hour of endless fun!!!
I have contacted the police who were very interested, and have advised me to print off all communications with him, which I have done.
Also contacted the dating site, they not really interested to one complaint, but I now know of four other woman on this site, who have also been involved like this, all by different calling men, and one woman has actually lost £5000.
They are so clever, but they, need to go and stand on a land mine, pinching some soldier identity who is fighting for their country,
    SCUM all of them.
So here are a couple more people to watch out for.

  41. Attorney Douglas says:

    Hello ladies,
I can be considered as one of the elderly who sit in front of tv sipping warm milk while our boys are out in d sun.
My son david, though late 30s and i do communicate often. His comrades and himself, are always in good spirits in spite of surrounding danger.
you can reach them on vaininit@yahoo.com, mind you, they like to talk dirty when they aint barricading or patrolling as they call it. you been warned, don't blame it on me

  42. lucy heming says:

  43. Ailsa mccallum says:

I have also been contacted by a brad Stanford he did try the telex thing with me but when I questioned why he didn't use it to contact his son he dropped it. I refused to give any details and was sure it was a scan he still chats to me on msn but when you question anything has to log off! I will report it to the dating site

  44. ailsa mccallum says:

    hi ladies,
i also have had correspondance from Sgt Brad Stanford who asked me about the telephone link but i was very cynical and said i wasnt prepared to give any details. He claims to be a widower who moved with his child to Manchester and is in Iraq at present stating he is retiring in December. When i question him he seems conveniently to have to sign off!! it is giving me a bit of entertainment but i have not and will not give out any details to him

  45. lucy heming says:

hi i wanted to warn against a robert menez saying he is soldier in iraq again ive already warned once but due to being contacted yet again by him it made me look more into it as all i could see was a photo of a soldier and got me wondering if he was real well i caint believe how low this man is i found my soldiers photo alright through tineye he was ambushed 2 years ago they found his body 1 year ago god bless you but all i want to do now is make sure the man who has taken photos to use to scam people gets stopped i have kept everything is there anything that i can do at all

  46. Lorraine says:

    hi

I have sent my information to the FBI and us army but who knows if anything will be done.
Im a canadian woman who was taken advantage of but wont stop till I get the truth. If anyone knows anyone else I could sen my info to let me know pls.

    • janet honeyman says:

i like you were scamed big time by a captain jack williams as you have maybe already read above about him,i had no idea he was not genuine we used to talk for hours in a day and seemed to be well matched to the point of him coming to live with me.how do we fall for this? wish id seen this site before i got invloved too late now.if i hear anything on your captain i will get back to you asap we deserve the truth.
      good luck

      • trin says:

I met a Captain Thomas Westfall who cought me at my lowest on Friends Re-United but fortunately I checked out the phone company first and found this site how stupid am I for almost falling for someone like that????

        • Jane Collins says:

Hi Trin, you are not stupid, just reading all the experiences of others on here, it shows how easy it is to become sucked into this scam. So don't feel bad, just grateful that you have discovered this scam for what it is. My story is the same as yours, and i was contacted by a Thomas Barrera on Friends Re united dating site too.

    • michaella says:

hello i was just looking to find information on ho do i know if the soldier is reall that im talking too,but can find nothing is it possible to find out if this one is reall no monay or personal info is asked of me yet,but i want to be sure, what should i do

      • Jane Collins says:

Hi Michaella, i think the best advice is keep an open mind at this point. However if you are corresponding via e mail how is the spelling and grammar. That is a big give a way. Most of these guys don't seem to be able to really converse well in English and their spelling tends to be pretty bad. Bit childish. If your gut instinct is telling you that something doesn't feel quite right then listen to it. Just be cautious, and try not to get drawn into a situation if it makes you feel uncomfortable.

  47. pam says:

i am chatting to a man called Andy Pedersson at the minute that is sayign the same thigns about this phone scam. i find it hard enough to find a good man but for them to be using dating web sites makes me mad as hell. date the uk should do something about this men.using soliders names aswell is sickening. i live in the uk and love our armed forces and believe they are doing a great job and so is the US but for these scams to be going around is just a slap in the face of all our dead.

    • Jen says:

Currently chatting to Andy Pedersson. He is romancing me via chats…I had very challenging questions for him from the beginning. He swears he is real!! He is now asking for money to come back home to be…LOL im do glad i don't trust nobody!!

  48. Ailsa says:

Update ladies on sgt brad Stanford! I had a lengthy conversation with him tonight where I questioned him on lots of matters. I told him I believed he was not who he says but he replied by saying he would need to speak to his bosses as his reputation and career were being tarnished – sure! I questioned him about the telex link and he says they arent allowed to use it any more- convenient! He also decided he no longer wants to communicate with me until he comes home – he can't give me a date apparently it's top secret – sure! He clearly knows I have him worked out so others be careful he is a con.

  49. veronica says:

I am dealing with the same, here! From singlesnet.com… CAPTAIN CURTIS JONES, IRAQ, ARMY. I have not reported anything, but you can BET I will! He seemed totally sweet but when I called him out on it (ie asking ME to pay when he said he had alot of money from an inheritance – just no internet banking because, get this: He LOST ALOT OF MONEY. No kidding.)
Anyway- he said he was special forces, and cannot use skype (said it was scrambled) or calling cards or write a real letter. He only had ONE picture, though it could be real, it probably isn't. Cute guy, 39, He has a gmail account and yahoo messenger, and said his commander uses the phone system to call his wife here in the US, it's classified, blah, blah, blah. I have strung him along for a week or so now while I researched this (so glad I found this specific site today). He knows I am suspicious at this point, but told me today that "they take installments, just read it again, please" (aol email link he sent me came from from TS2 / submit moneygram to BRANDY KERSEY, Port Orange, Florida). This woman is listed on myspace, for whatever that is worth. His name turns up nothing. He has also brought up the whole story about getting out early, for a sum of money, wanting to get married next year, will retire in a couple of years… Of course, he has NO family anywhere. I quickly replied that I don't get a bonus so he'll have to use his OWN money for that, too LOL.
I believe in revenge for a-holes like this.

  52. JoAnn says:

I have met a "Captain David Bonucci through Facebook and requested friendship due to a business venture I was working on. (Non Profit)
He asked me to contact him through IM and we chatted. He then let me on to believe he was in
Darfur and wanted to help the starving kids.
I started a plan of action to help him and then he asked me to sign up for the TELEX. As soon as I received that email, my heart sank and I knew that I had been misled and on my way to a huge scam. It asked me for $1000.00 and then when I showed it to him he played innocent and then said he heard it was only $500.00!!!!! OMG
I always believe the best in people until they prove me wrong and I was crushed, but glad to be smart enough not to send any money!! Damn, he really had me believing we were going to do something positive for those poor starving babies. Disgusting to take advantage of good people!

    Thanks in advance ladies

    • Marcus says:

I emailed kazz the following in reply to this comment.

      kazz,

The email you posted in the comment is definitely a scam. I've gotten literally hundreds of those emails myself, and I am a Marine! I feel very safe in saying that the "Marine" that emailed you likely doesn't exist and if he does, he did not personally email you. The $10 million he speaks of does not exist and you will only be taken for money if you respond to that email. Please do not!

Thank you for visiting A Soldier's Perspective and feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

      Damn scammers.

  57. sherri says:

i was also targeted by this scam by at first sgt andy pedersson who said he was deployed in iraq. he first contacted me through myspace and then asked me to add him on yahoo. i got the email about the phone scam. i told him i was not going to send money. he kept talking to me he eventually had others request me on yahoo and they began to befriend me. later always finding a way to ask for money. this guy was actually dumb enough to give me his myspace password and i found out he was sending messages to many many women. i took the liberty to post a blog on his page warning potential victims of this scam. i just did this today after finding this site last night. have not heard from "andy" yet but getting lots of offlines from his friends telling me what i found is not true. i am gonna take the opportunity to warn as many as i can through myspace, where i was first contacted.

    • Jen says:

Currently chatting to Andy Pedersson. He is romancing me via chats…I had very challenging questions for him from the beginning. He swears he is real!! 58. cristelle says:

Hi, just thought that I share my story with you guys. For the past 3 months I have been talking to Captain "Timothy Nein" according to him the same Timothy Nein who received his Distinguished Service Cross and he is suppose to be in the Military Police and i met him through connectingsingles and he used SSG T.Nein picture as well. He told me that his wife died 5 months ago to start with but he insisted that his son needed another mother as he is very lonely and has a defect eye. When I would not buy this story he told me she died 2 years ago. He sent me an email pretending to be his son and "samuel" calling me mum and that his going to buy me a wedding ring but don't tell dad. The real SSG Nein have 2 children but when I gave him the link to the actual interview of SSG Nein, he said that he did not want to bring his other son into it and said that no matter how much he is trying to win my heart I keep finding things about him. He said that he has not seen his younger son for many years as he lives with his sister -in- law and they would not give him access. His insistant on the Telephone connection which I have sent an email to but have not given any details and I have done a lot of research and found out a lot of truth such as SSG wife is still alive and his children are both with their mum. He gave me this details to give to the TS2: Timothy Wright Nein, the real SSG is (Timothy Foster Nein), 5th special forces group, operation base-Altimur, 2nd Battallion, 12th Infantry Regiment, ID 06/02-10101. I have also found out SSG real year of birth in one of the site on the web but the one I am talking to has given me something else completely. However now I am so glad to have found this site as I never beleived him from the start and this site just confirmed to me all my suspicion, he absolutely discuss me, it is revolving how this pathetic, looser thinks that everybody else are narrow minded as he is. As I actually told him that I beleive that he has stolen SSG T. Nein identity but he still goes on like he is the best thing before slice bread. I just want to warn other woman to stay clear of these low lives as that's all that they are and everyone else in Nigerain who pray on the vulneable. Ps his email is br_wright10@yahoo.com

    • Timothy Nein says:

I cam across your article. I have posted a blurp on the same site. This has been a scam that has gone on by another party for about a year. Wish I could put a stop to it. I'm glad you cought on to it before they scamed you out of any monies.

  59. HellsGran says:

I have had a similar experience. After one or 2 exchanges on Friends Reunited DAting site, Morris sent me his email and we swopped photoshe was quite gushy about me. after a day or 2 he insisted i contacted wirelessphonec@usa.com to request a sucure line connecton so that he could hear my "aweet voice while away from the base some kind of mission. the name he cave was Morris Anderson Captain Camp Victory (003) Iraq. When the reply came, they wanted £200 and personal details. The email was not the Usual US DOD standard, it looked like a copy of an ebay layout with the typical scammer setup of mane address etc in a list. complete with spelling an grammatical mistakes!I told him I wouldn't be paying and he spent quite a while on serious sweet talking me into paying but said there was no way! I don't expect to hear form him again. the email he used was morris.horrix@yahoo.co.uk I would really like to send the email to some one in the US Military to let them know whats going on in their name. … Would appreciate some advice.

  60. mixter says:

So glad I fund this site. Has anyone heard of Festus Smith, a marine serving in Iraq for 3 years. Same old story. He hasn't asked me for money yet but I have been in contact with another lady who he also contacts and we both get the EXACT SAME emails.

  61. spotty says:

He is 44 and again said he needed £200 to be paid by a moneygram by TST Satellites. When his attitude changed when I said I did not have the money I realised then that it was a Scam. Im so glad I found this site.

I have been contacted by a Cpt. Tom J. Howard, says he's with US Army's Hopecure Consult. Does anyone know if this is a real person/consult?

  68. Heather says:

Who do I report this guy to?

  69. juffr says:

I am being scammed too by the handsome "SGT Mark Smith Donnelly" (the same scammer that Tammy had). Hardly to understand how the scammer can provide not only all those pictures with family but also important doc such as military passport of Donnelly. Damd scammer!! If you read carefully his english is actualy too poor for a Sergeant !!
I hv sent report to the Internet Complain Crime: https://compl...gov/ctf.aspx.
The IC3 is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA).

    Hopefully it works!

I met this fool Sgt. Mark Donelly December 2009. He has been a fool ever since. He has broken english and claims he is in the army in iraq. Claims he has a daughter named Laura. States he is from Colorado Springs, Co. Wife died two years due to car accident. He claims he just got promoted to Staff Sgt. He says he is at Camp Victory, Iraq. He is very charming and began to make me believe he was real. He and I have been chatting via yahoo im. He claims he cant call home to talk to me, insisted on me calling TS2 and have a sat phone bought for him. He is claiming he has to pay for his airfare home for R&R and gives stories after stories about all of the reasons why he cant call home, why he has to pay for his ticket. He even gave me a email address to write to Gen Ray Odierno. I rec'vd emails back suppose to be from the Gen but they are fake. Claims he is innocent and someone he met is setting him with this information on this webpage. I am angry cus I really cared for him and I am glad I found this page before I sent him any money. PLEASE WATCH OUT FOR HIM.

      • nina says:

Sgt. Mark Smith Donnelly. email is sgt.markd@ymail.com. He sent three pics of him in uniform and with family. No other pics were available per him.

          Nina
I was also contacted by the so-called mark donnelly. We chatted from Oct. 2009 to Jan.2010. He gave me the same story. HE said his daughter lived with his mother in Colorado and that he was very close to his father who passed away 2 years ago. He said his dad was a successful business man and left him guite a sum of money. He bombarded me with poetry but every now and then he would forget to change the name. He sent me 3 photos too. My favorite one was the one where he is in uniform with his hand under his chin staring off into space. If you want to know more ask me. I might be the one he is referring too since twice I have chased him off mate1 but he just keeps coming back. I found 2 other girls on this site that he was chatting up at the same time he was chatting to me. Check his ip address. He is from Nigeria.

  70. Anne says:

    Hi

I am currently talking to a sgt jason pendleton on friends reunited dating site? Is anyone else in contact with him? He has asked me to call him again through a phone company that charges…?

  71. I met Mark Donnelly about 6 months ago. His email address is sgt.markd@ymail.com. He is a scammer. He wanted money for ts2 and money to come home to me. He got nothing from me.Last talked to him Dec.25 2009 . The pic he uses is awesome. He even told me if I got the phone we could talk on the phone while he was on patrol.I guess if he gets a call the enemy will wait for him to finish his call. lol beware of this guy. I have blocked him and anyone else in touch with him should do the same.

  72. Kim says:

I also have been contacted by Lt Thomas Barrera (this seems to be a new name) anyone heard of him? also from the friends reunited dating site, wirelessphonet@usa.com is where I was asked to go to get my personal chat line to him they were asking for £225 to get us connected.
The only difference is that when I told him I could not afford to pay the charges he told me not to worry about it, we would just continue as we are. Yes he's full of sweet talk and I also have pics one of him in uniform and one with him and his child. He is divorced as he caught his wife in bed with another man so that was the end of that. He apparently has a place in Worcester where his mother lives and has just brought a place in Newcastle upon Tyne. But is quite happy to lock his place up and come and stay with me!!!! We chat through the IM on yahoo but obviously he's taking a 'a risk' because he really isn't supposed to be using the laptop/computer. Apparently I am the love of his life and he wants to marry me? oh yes he calls me sweets? is this sounding familiar to anybody?
Is there nowhere we can post these pics that we get sent to compare notes? I think I am going to start collecting these photos so we can keep an eye on who's scamming who so if anyone wants to swap photos or send them to me with their so called names I will keep them on file email me: kimhollowell@hotmail.com

  73. Patty B says:

wesley smith has posted pic s to me and they are the same as on his web site maybe I was wrong

    • Anne says:

They are all fake, as stated above all soldiers have a military email address and non of these guys use them they are on yahoo / hotmail etc. Dont listen to anymore bull as thats all they are interested in extortion of money and nothing else. For such high positions they cant spell, misuse of grammar. Yes they can sweet talk and give you the attention, but what good is that when they send you fake pics, of someone and someone elses kids and they all also happen to be widows!!

  74. There is another scammer that I talked too before mark donnelly. He is Wiley Baker his email.wibakker@rocketmil.com His scam is he has a suitcase full of money and jewels. He only needed me to hold the suitcase. lol but this guy is smooth.he sent me roses and a teddy bear.He didn't get me for money though. lol. I told him I was on welfare when he ask me for 2500. I told him I couldn"t cause I was on welfare but I would gladly send him a few food stamps !!!!! lol Watch out for this guy he is a control freak. when he didn't get money he got nasty.!!!1 He swore and threanened me. in arabic.lol but I am not scared.I can play with the big dogs. lol Be careful girls.

  75. Sorry. I got his email address wrong. It is wibbaker@rocketmail.com

  76. Liz says:

My mother was recently contacted by someone on the Plenty Of Fish dating website who said he was Sgt. Edward Mcnamara from the US Army. He went by the Yahoo ID and email address EdwardMcnamara2000@Yahoo.Com. Basically same story as some of the other stories I was reading above…told her he loved her and wanted to be with her but kept asking her if she could come up with money for the phone and had her contact the supposed company by using wirelessservice@live.com but for some reason this supposed company didn't have a website like the legit ones…gee I wonder why. Then today he starts asking her for money so he could pay his Staff Sgt and come home sooner. I have a friend who use to be in the Army and he said never ever do you have to pay anyone to get out of the Army. The only 2 ways are being kicked out or you finish serving your time. All of this started sounded very fishy to me, especially today so I did research on the real Edward Mcnamara and of course all of his information was totally different than what this scammer said. Thankfully I made sure my mother didn't send him or anyone else any money. Please be careful ladies!

  77. lcs says:

Jack Williams Lingo is back on datetheuk site – this time as Sgt Greene, this time saying he is 29 with two daughters, and living in the uk but doesn't seem to have any knowledge about where he is supposed to be living – also – english and grammar is dreadful. AVOID HIM

  78. Sorry girls but the handsome mark donnelly is a scammer. I last talked to him on xmas day. He is big on poems.I have all email chat receipts pics that he sent for the last 6mons.I also have pic of him in dress uniform complete with name tag. He says am happy a lot. can;t spell. He has written me threatening letters. He is smooth but when he knows he won.t get any money he will try to get it by using threats. He has threatened my son and me. He doesn't know what a pretzle is? He says he from Colorado but he didn't know or heard of the denver bronco If it's to good to be true it is a scam and I'm sure you will agree he is to good to be true. If anybody wants to know more let me know.A heads up girls. These dirtbags are right in the middle of the terrorists from Yemen. So please girls BE CAREFUL. We are not sending what they want from us MONEY. So watch out.

  79. I forgot I know the general as ken reed have all info pics etc.

  80. Don't give up girls. We are not giving them any money so it does matter. If only one girl sees this site before sending any money I am happy.

  81. I ask Mark Donnelly What was his worst nightmare? He replied….leaking from the rear!!!!(diarrhea) I laughed so much I almost fell out of my chair!!LOL How to spot a scammer ha ha ha

  82. To cristelle

I am sure your timothy hein is the guy I know as wiley bakker. His email addy is wibbaker@rocketmail.com. My info is just like yours. Except his son's name was Mickey. In one photo his son looks about 4 in another one he looks about 12. I got 2 dz red roses and a teddy bear from mickey. He told me not to tell his dad.He said he was in uk with wiley's brother who was an airline pilot. But I knew him as captain kenneth reed.I have info and pics. This guy will become verbally abuse when his lies don"t work. Do yourself and us a favor and kick his ass to the curb. If you wanna see pics or want info let me know. and

    ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST
you girls are really doing a great job getting the word out. These guys are cruel and heartless. but the one way you can get them and it will hurt them is to cut out the money and make it hard for them to get more Be careful girls

  83. Sorry I mean I know him as captain wiley baker. There are so many names flying around it is unbelievable.

  84. Ailsa says:

I have another one girls a sgt rey Moore he is apparently in Afghanistan!!! When I said to him that there seemed to be a lot of us troops on the dating site he seemed to disappear. Never gave much info away just big long messages declaring his undying love!!!!

    • Michelle says:

I meet Sgt Reynold moore on bbpeoplemeet.com.
I thought this all sounded fishy. Even questioned him about me being scammed before.
He got upset and thought I was acussing him of scamming me now I know he was. He says he's in trouble for doing a NOK and had to cancel it. To bad cause he really looked good had many pictures.

  85. THE PLOT THICKENS
today I received an email from Laura(only laura I know is mark donnelly's so called daughter)there was no message. Just an attachment titled pics. Since I no longer am in contact with him I found this highly suspecious. So I deleted immediately. Could be a virus.BE AWARE We may be starting to make am impact on them. They will do anything to keep the money coming in.STAY VIGILANT and please BE CAREFUL

  86. I am so happy Kathy that you were not scammed. These dirtbags are crawling out of the wood work. Take care

  87. Elizabeth says:

I have been in contact with a SGT Steve Lopez stationed in Iraq. He mentioned in one of our first conversations that he would like me to request his leave so he can come and meet me. I asked him why he needed me to request it and he told me because he has only been there for four months.

He proclaimed his love for me after a couple of days…now to know me is to love me…lol…but come on. I keep our conversation light and his are always filled with love. It's actually funny…..well except the part where he was going to mass and was going to pray for me. I thought that that crossed the line. A scammer going to church to pray for me…..I think he meant to try to prey upon me.

I did a check and found out that Sgt Steve Lopez is active duty. I also have asked him questions that have proven true. How is this possible?

I do believe I may have figured out a way that they are getting pictures and information about REAL soldiers/men. I am going to research it some more on Monday when I return to work. If this is the case then we women aren't the only target…our soldiers are, as well.

I plan to contact the real soldier after I get more info….making sure he is in fact real and let him know his identity had been stolen.

We as women can not only protect ourselves in this, but possibly be able to help protect the true soldiers fighting for us.

Hello, I'm from Holland and I have been approached by Capt. Lucas A. Klice, known email adress lucas_stone@yahoo.com. I met him trough speeddate.com. (I've got his profile removed but there soon will be another I guess).I too made a request by email to the military, milsat-20fr@usmilitary.20fr.com. Yesterday I got an email back for confirmation, the fee was USD 445. Than I felt something was wrong so I started searching on the internet and found out is was a scam.
I hope somebody can do something because this is a network all over the world, i think.

  99. Hi Coby
I too have been in your position. I just wanted to tell you and all the other women who have come on this site and tell their stories are doing something about this network. We are making women and men aware of this scam. BE Proud

  101. Roberta says:

I have been in contact with a Sgt Frank Kline who supposedly is in Iraq. He advised me I would have to make a request via email to talk to him on the phone. I sent the initial email and I received the following:
"Dear madam, We have successfully received your special application on behalf of
Sgt. Frank Black in the US military base, Iraq. We are processing this request and we advice you to please provide us the Information below
    -You Home Address
    -Your Full Name
    -Your Phone Number
    -The Service provider
Once you provide us with this information you are no longer anonymous to us. (We) protect your privacy. We do not insist you provide extra personal information than necessary
All information collected will not be used for any illegal activities.
This is what we are going to use in registration with the Military Telecommunication Service in other to have the access to our Telex phoning facility.
    Regards,
    Nick Wild
    (military service director)

I know that the military would never send out such a poorly written communication at least I would hope a little proofreading would go on..lol

I also found it odd that I referred to him as Sgt. Frank Kline but in the reply they referred to him as Frank Black..that set off alarms.

  102. Timothy Nein says:

I am the real Timothy Nein. If any one contacts you online trying to tell you they are me I assure you they are not. DO NOT SEND ANY MONIES TO ANYONE WHO SAYS THEY ARE "TIMOTHY NEIN"! I will not and do not correspond with anyone I do not know personally.

  103. Roberta says:

As a follow up to my post from this morning I replied to the email with the following after reading this site..Thank you ladies and gentlemen.
"Please provide an explaination as to why you have referred to Sgt Frank Kline as Sgt Frank Black? Also please provide feedback as to why I must provide all of that information for a simple phone call? Also please advise why this soldier cannot call without all of these hoops to jump through? This is not a normal procedure for the military.

    Thank You for your repsonse"

This was the response I got:
" we don't deal with these types of complaints but for the records FRANK KLINE and FRANK BLACK are the same. His full name is: FRANK BLACK KLINE. As for why you have to go through these hoops, you have to know that we have men who do all sort of works and the protocol is different depending on the nature of their duty and so we monitor all communications with them. We do hope we have answered all your questions"

I then replied to the email
" we don't deal with these types of complaints but for the records FRANK KLINE and FRANK BLACK are the same. His full name is: FRANK BLACK KLINE. As for why you have to go through these hoops, you have to know that we have men who do all sort of works and the protocol is different depending on the nature of their duty and so we monitor all communications with them. We do hope we have answered all your questions"

I have not received a reply from this email nor do I really expect one. I am going guess I will no longer hear from Sgt Frank Kline which is just fine in my book.

I just wish more women would do some research before just blindly following a request.

    • Roberta says:

sorry my copy and paste reflexes were not working so well…let me try that again. I shouldn't try to multi task at night it never works well for me..lol

I replied to the second email with the following:
"No you have not answered all of my questions. If this is standard protocol for the military why is your email address not a .mil email address. Why on your graphic can you not click on the newsfeed button?
There are many inconsistancies with this protocol that you are outlining for me. "

  104. Tammy says:

wow, found this website just in time, same bs was given to me.. A widowed army man, pictures of his kid and himself.. nice looking, charming but always seem very head strong on getting this "phone Line" hooked up so we could chat. litle things he said started to no add up, I remember asking him if we can send proper post, but he says that is not allowed, his laptop did not have speakers, his undying love for me was there but we needed to talk to make it stronger. blah blah.. Like a idiot I almost fell for it and sent the money via western union as directed.. then found this website and have now cancelled the transaction.. I am out of the tranfer fees but got all my money coming back into my bank. I will await to hear what he says now when we meet online later and tell him, I decided not to do the "phone". Will be intresting to say the least.

The old saying in life.. If it seems to good to be true, then it probably is" I for one would love to exchange photos to see if any us possibly have talked to the same person, just different names.

sadly there prob is true life soilders out there who are nice and looking for a lovely lady, but its buttheads like this who give it all a bad name

    • Roberta says:

The 'gentleman' if you can call them that, that I had been chatting with when I offered to send him regular mail he told me that he isn't allowed to get regular mail in his unit. I asked about a webcam so we could at least 'see' each other while we were chatting and he said that they were not allowed in his unit. He used the phrase underground work to describe what he does within the military. I have friends currently in the military and was chatting with them about this and they said underground work is not a military term.

  105. trin says:

I have also been lucky westfall100@yahoo.com seems to be a new name I met him on friends reunited and he claimed to own a house in Leeds and coming home from tour in 5 months I almost fell for it hook line and sinker

  106. BrownBunny says:

This is so crazy! I have been talking to a SGT Peter Morrow who contacted me several months ago on singlesnet.com. Sob story about needing money to get a phone thru ts2 cuz he does underground military work and isn't allowed regular mail, phone calls, or web cams. Asked me to send $500 for the phone. I didn't do it though and I'm soo glad a friend found this site! Has anyone else heard this name before???

    • Roberta says:

I got the same story of not being allowed regular mail, phone calls(but he could call me) or webcams…only he was using the name Sgt Frank Black Kline..

  107. Sandi says:

I got a few messages from that westfall100@yahoo.com a couple of nice photos and the same story about having a home in Leeds. Cept he lived with his sister and her child and his brother just recently got married. He came off very romantic and kind and caring, but I think it was the fact he could not spell to save his life that put me off and that he never answered questions. He never got a chance to prompt me about a phone because I got a bit suspicious of him when he claimed that a group of strippers went into their camp and tried to blow them all up.. I bout died laughing.. I mean come on.. Thats just taking the piss out of the armed services. Just be careful out there and read closely to what they tell you.

  108. Sandi says:

Here is a website that gives you directions on how to track an IP address from email that is sent to you from any of these "so called Army Soilders"

    aruljohn.com/track.pl

I used it today and was able to check up on a guy I have just recently met from a online dating site. The man was a USA Army Captain, who was in Iraq, very romantic letters, full of poetry and must say very well written letters. He sorta got a bit lazy after a few days altho, and changing his story a bit. One day he said he was only gone 4months, 3 days later after my suspicion got worse, I asked him again innocently how long he has been parted from his family and he came back, that it was 12 months and he really missed his family. I would think so too considering three days ago it was only 4 months.. I have not responded back to anymore emails he has sent me, or the "company" asking about the payment for the phone line. Stangely enough when I traced the acutal "Company" IP address, it turns out to be a aol account in the states somewhere.

Here are my results from tracing his (yahoo) emails using the directions from the above link to check the IP from his emails

This web site saved me alot of worried but also made me realize them alarms that kept going off in my head, is something next time I will listen more closely to

  117. Jane Collins says:

Just to add to my earlier comment about Lt Thomas Barrera, i have mailed kim about this and i hope she will get in touch. I was a member on Friends Reunited Dating and was contacted first by a man called Kenneth Smith who was not pretending to be a soldier but an engineer working in Afghanistan, Kabul. I'm beginning to wonder if this Kenneth Smith is also posing as a soldier using another name as having read all these other ladies experiences, well need i say more!! With regards to the Lt Thomas Barrera, the membership name on FRD that he was using was Litknighttom and the e mail address i have for him is klusknigtklantom@yahoo.com as for the other herbert Kenneth smith was on FRD as kenneth flames and his e mail is kennethsmith0079@yahoo.com I hope that this info might help some of you out there. If anyone would like to contact me directly about either of these two my e mail address is collins697@btinternet.com i feel we all need to stay vigilant, and stick together to try our best to stop these scams. The real soldiers do not deserve their reputations being trashed in this way. They are fantastic people doing a very difficult job, and i personally feel deep respect and pride in them.

  119. sue says:

Well…I have another name for you ladies…He goes by Captain John Cody. It didn't take me long to figure this idiot out. Even to this day he still professes that he is who he is and wants a relationship with me….Uuummmmm…NO! He gave me his Colonels' name as Col. Bruce Jones. It is all CRAP!!! He wanted me to contact his Col. to arrange leave for him to be with me (I never did!) as I knew this was a huge scam. When I asked how much it would cost, he said he did not know….AAHH HA!
It is a sham that these people do this as there are some women out there who truely are looking for a relationship and these a-holes play on our emotions!!! Let's make sure they hang themselves with this scam!!!!

  120. coby says:

Hi ladies, it's me again from Holland. I met someone trough armysingles.com. He says he's from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and has the following story.

"I am Saud,46 yrs old, from Saudi Arabia . I am a general in the Royal saudi Air Force and part time prof at the Univ of Riyadh,Saudi Arabia sinc I have a Doctorate degree in Int Relations.I am someone who has a lot to offer to the right partner. I'm happy with my life, alone but not lonely. I miss sharing it all with someone special. I enjoy long conversations, experiences, and romance. I want a best friend and companion,.I am at a point in my life where I want to spend some quality time with a mate that will share all life has to offer. I'm independent, loyal, truthful and self reliant but would love the opportunity to have a partner again. Life is so wonderful and I know I am not going to spend it alone. I'm easy going, never moody, open minded, witty, and intelligent. I laugh a lot and enjoy life. I think mutual respect and mutual admiration for each other is important…I seek a woman who is confident, but not conceited. She has a positive, upbeat outlook on life! she will know what it means to be a a woman, and not be one who concentrates on proving she is female. she is tender yet strong, she loves her family and close friends, and is compassionate toward even a stranger. she is successful in her career and demonstrates her intelligence by her ability to communicate on a variety of topics, not by the number of diplomas she has hanging on the office wall.
I would hope we'd share some common interests–particularly, I'm as crazy to see her as she is to see me!!! And yet have our own uniqueness as well. We should both be willing to explore the other's interests as well as find new ones neither of us have experienced. I am not perfect, nor am I seeking perfection…i hope to find someone here…

    Email address is desertwarrior25@yahoo.com.
Has anybody been in contact with this man?

    • Jane Collins says:

Not heard of this person, though his profile sounds startlingly familiar. Some of the phrases he uses in his description of what he is looking for!!! Not sure, but his phrases sound very much like those used by kenneth smith!!! Be wary. If he starts sending you romantic poems!!! well it could well be the same man. Do you have a picture of him? I think you should just keep an open mind at this point, and see what transpires. Don't be persuaded to pay out any money though, please just be careful.

      • Yolanta says:

Having found a lovely american solider on friends reunited, I have spent the last two weeks having a very meaningful chat on yahoo mail, every evening, every day for approx. 2 hours. Who in their right mind would do that if they werent genuine. Well robert_sgtdavis.yahoo.com thats who! Please be warned. Serving in iraq also and tells me hes being moved to another base and there will be no internet available for him to use. Needs to hear my voice etc., etc., loves me etc., etc., but needs me to email wirelessphonenet@usa.com and pay £225 to enable us to speak over the next 3 months before he comes home for good and spends the rest of his life with me. I cant believe I nearly fell for it. I'm meant to be an intelligent woman! Oh well. another one bites the dust.

    • Jane Collins says:

      Hi Jo,

Sorry that you too have been taken in by these rat bags. Its a horrid feeling knowing that you have been sucked in by this scam, but at least you found out before it was too late. You have probably done what i did, found this site and read with a sinking heart all these other ladies stories. Not a nice feeling to realise your lovely soldier in fact is nothing but a cheap liar preying on lonely ladies….well wake up call for these creatures, we are on to them. Spread the word and help other ladies not to fall victim to this nasty little scam!!! I have contacted a local newspaper about this and hope it may make others out there aware.

In the meantime a site worth a visit is britishpenpals.co.uk for a small fee £5 a month you can join and have the opportunity to write, e mail real soldiers in the armed forces, british or from other countries. You might like to look in to this as an alternative to the on line dating sites.

Good luck and keep your spirits up.
      Best wishes Jane

Hi Ladies, I'm glad I ran across this site. I too have been communicating with a so called Marine by the name of Frank Black, his scree name is Frankblack007@yahoo.com. This is not the first time this has happened to me so I was aware of the scams going on. I've always been skeptical so I've never fallen into being scammed for money. There are all different scenerios not just military. When Mr. Black suggested that I get permission from the military to communicate with him I knew what was coming. When he told me there would be an activation fee of $400.00 I siad wow that is alot of money for me,,, I can't afford that, he than said,,"oh, it may not be that much for you" duh…. So he gave me an email address of "militarycommuncations@usa.com". I sent an email and got a response right of way about a system called. NAVCOM117,,once i saw this email it confirmed for me that it was a scam… The love letters, and cards that he sends are just another part of the scam.. It's sad that this is what people have resorted to to get money and prey on lonely women. Good luck ladies and don't fall into the scams..actually its fun to play along and see how far they go. hehe

      • Roberta says:

        Lori,

Does anybody know if there is a way that we can check with the US bases that these scammers claim to be from to find out if they DO really exist. 133. But TS2 truly exist, how do you differentiate a scam and the Real TS2?

    • Nancy says:

You do not have to pay to use the TS2 system.

It's all on their end, not yours. There's military "phonehome", system in place. It's like a radio to phone line, but not exactly.

Besides, anything sent from the army will have army.mil on the end of it. The don't do org, yahoo, .com, .net, it's only the agency or origin.army.mil…hope that helps

(This is the email he sent me today. He's been playing this off of the Afghanistan Offensive current in the news. This man or someone else even posed as his daughter, sent me an email. I'm also attaching pictures they have stolen or fabricated. I don't know how they did it, but they have an enormous network. I'm ex-military, so I ask question and if they don't sound right, I call the nearest Army Post or go online to see if there is something similar to a new term he has used. In this case there's only been two. SEE BELOW.)

    Hi baby,
I am so glad to hear from you again my love, because when i do, I feel alive. You bring to me a happiness that no one else ever could. You bring to me a love I have never known before. I could not imagine what my life would be like without you.. You have touched my heart in ways no one could ever comprehend. I love being with you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.

Every day I wake up thanking God for you. You have given me so much, and I don't know if I will be able to give back all that you have given me. You have been my guiding light when I was lost. You have been my comforter through all my trials and sorrow. You have been my rock.
I want to tell you that the love I have for you is undying. It is a love that is strong and enduring and will stand the test of time. I truly feel blessed that you have become a part of my life, and I cannot wait for the day that we can join our lives together. I want to lie next to you at night and fall asleep in your arms.

Honey things have been abit busy here, i really miss you so much i cant wait to see you soon my love, baby i am still working on my leave, i hope to be with you sooner than you expect,i cant wait to hold you kiss you and make sweet love to you, because you are my world, my love and my everything.

Baby i would love you hear your sweet voice as well as you hear mine, it would be the best gift ever, i would be so happy, i would feel closer to you that way, since i do not really get much time to chat with you.. i love you and i am so sad about that fact that we do not get to chat often anymore.. i just found out that you can write to the ts2 telex company incharge of our base at ts2military@engineer.com, you can write to them telling them that you are my proposed wife, (because that is the only way they would respond on time) and that you wish to communicate with E07 sgt David Mcgee Esquivel via phone, and that they should tell you all the necessary procedure to make it possible.

you should get a reply from them withing 24hours depending on the numeber of request they have. Edward and Cordero just did theirs and they were able to call their wife last weekend, and i want to be able to talk to you this weekend

Nancy, I want to wake to your beautiful smile. I want to share in your joys and sorrows. I want to be your everything, because you are everything to me.
I promise to always love you and always hold you in my heart. I will always be there for you when you need me, and I will love you no matter what life brings us. You are my soul mate, and I vow to love you all eternity. I love you, baby. i cant wait to see you and hold you…….
    Your Darling

      Hey Y'all,

I've been patient. My weird shit-o-meter has gone off twice with this guy. I've been in a similar situation, but he wasn't using the right terminology for being military. I'm a
Veteran. the information above is what you may get. Each time, the man posing as David, has said there may be a fee, but he didn't know how much it would be. I had already told him that I wouldn't be paying for anything, since I'm not his wife. I've been reporting this stuff to DHS, FBI, Interpol and others, but don't expect a quick response, if any.

I think that most people have believed that this sort of thing can not happen with the military. Well, unfortunately, it can and it has. These folks are everywhere. I've met many people online and on different websites, but it you can't find them anywhere on the website you frequent, then it's probably a scam. They come from out of nowhere, but again, it's a scam. Sometimes they hack in to these website, take over the paying customers profile and start asking for money. BlackPeopleMeet, YahooPersonals, Match.Com….all of them, so be careful.
It's painful to accept, but again, this is the world we live in now. You know nothing about no body, not even the person next door.

God Bless and Be Careful out there.

      Hi Nancy,
OMG I have been talking to this guy David Mcgee Esquivel too and I received the exact same email word for word (1st one). it broke my heart but I am so glad I found this site. It was a little too late for me though. He sent me flowers on Vals day and for my birthday he sent me a heart shaped necklace, so I did sign up to the TS2 service. I feel so stupid. People can be so cruel, and to use God in the scam is the worst.
But now I know. Thanks for your post.
      I appreciate it.

  137. Christine Holm says:

    Hi girls.

I have almost been scammed too. I am from Denmark, and was contacted by Sgt. Micheal Travis, who supposedly is in Iraq at a camp down there. He was "cheated on" by his young and beautiful wife almost 2 years ago. Well, he sent me photos, and he fell in love with me after two days. And now he loves me. :-) Apparently, his three grandparents are originally from Denmark, the last from the States.

Today he told me on messenger that he is leaving for another camp on Thursday. They don't have any internet connection, no computers and no way of getting in contact with me, unless I call the military services and pay $480, and we set up a phone connection. Well, luckily I don't have that kind of money, and he seemed quite disappointed. I told him that if the love was strong enough, it would survive. Suddenly, he had to get some sleep and logged off.

The first thing I did was check out the e-mail address that I should contact: wirelessphonet@mail2usa.com. And luckily I found this site. What a pity that it wasn't real, but it has taught me a lesson, if it is too good to be true, it isn't true. At least I have some photos of a great looking guy, now, and I am keeping them. :-)

Thank you all for writing in here. I hope that somebody can stop them. Shall I report it to anybody?? Or warn anybody? His mail is sgt.michealtravis@yahoo.com. I also have photos, if it was possible to show them, I would. :-)

All the best for you all, and remember there is some good guys out there, who will really love you for who you are. :-)

    Christine

Thank you so much for putting this stuff on the internet. I almost got scammed today. I was communicating with one Col. Frank Thomason who is based in afgan. Said he wanted to hear my voice but needed to register with their data base (militaryphoning@usa.com). Got an email off them from company called TS2 requesting for a payment of £300. Hi all. my scammer was named Sgt. Wiley Baker. He said that he had to marry in order to get his money that his father and mother left him.He had no account wanted everything by western union. Luckily I found this site before I sent him any money. These scammers will pretend to be a man or woman. They will be what ever you want them to be. If it walks like a duck and talks
      like a duck it's a duck.

Hi Chris i tried googling this name for you but didn't have any luck finding anything out. Sorry!!! I guess if you're gut instinct is telling you somethings not right then go with it. From an outsiders perspective (me)this person does sound like they could well be a scammer. Don't part with any money and just be careful. Good luck!!!

Hi there, I have been in contact with a Dennis Gray an American soldier that I met at Match.com for 3 weeks. He said he is stationed in Afghanistan, he is 42 years old, his birthday being Dec 18th.He has not asked me for $ but I have not heard from him in 3 days and we were emailing and live chatting everyday? Can you tell me if he exists? His profile has been removed from Match.com site. Thanks, Jeanine

  147. Jay says:

  148. Jay says:

I threatened the guy i was talking to and he deleted his profile that day..

  149. chris says:

How do i get my money back?

  150. donna sensenig says:

I played along with wiley baker and he sent me 3500 dollars to wire overseas and I kept it, I stopped talking to him and used a different profile and scammed him.lol His western union was real so I kept it and donated it to charity

  151. donna sensenig says:

I sent him fake money orders and had him running back and forth to western union trying to get his money. lol

  152. donna sensenig says:

The only way you will ever see your money is to get them to believe you believe them. Scam the scammer.

hiya ladies, just going to let you read this mail from "my man" ssgt T mcchrystal from the 6217th military police company, 31B military police. hes "in" kabul. "Hi honey…I'm so sorry i missed you yesterday..have been looking forward to talk to you..i'm missing you so much..Life is so unpredictable. Changes always come along, in big or small ways. I don't know what happened that this sudden change has turned my world around. I don't know exactly what it is, it just hit me, but there is something really special about you.

It might be all the things I see on the surface, the things that everyone notices and admires about you, qualities, capabilities and a wonderful smile obviously connected to a warm and loving heart; these things set you apart from everyone else. But it may also be the big things … the person you really are that I hope to know more someday. And it might also be the little things … the way you talk and all your actions. I receive so much joy knowing you are smiling. If I ever figure out the magic that makes you so special, I'd probably find out that it's a combination of all these things. You are a rare combination of so many special things. You are really amazing.

Inside of me there is a place where my sweetest dreams reside, where my highest hopes are kept alive, where my deepest feelings are felt and where my favorite memories are safe and warm. I find that you're on my mind more often than any other thought. Sometimes I bring you there purposely just to make my day brighter. But more often, you surprise me and find your own ways into my thoughts. There are even times when I awaken, I realize that you've been a part of my dreams. Then during the day, when my imagination is free to run, it takes me into your arms and allows me to linger there knowing there's nothing I'd rather do. I know my thoughts are only reflecting the loving hopes of my heart because whenever they wander, they always take me to you.

Only the most special things in my world get to come inside my heart and stay. And now, I realize how deeply my life has been touched by you. i am thinking deeply about you right now.. i wish you could sign in to chat with me now…would really love to know the time you come.. online..i'm missing you so much..

    Love you
