As an analyst one has to wonder what underlying ties the Principal and PTA of Williams Middle School have with Breland Homes and Educational Outfitters. It's unfortunate the Principal and the PTA officials lack the skills and experience to handle the issue with finesse and aplomb. In this matter CJ is correct in his approach and for demonstrating his responsibility to the community for reporting this injustice.

CJ,

Legal action: slam them with as many charges as you and your lawyer can think of.

You really, really need to get the ACLU in on this too.

Sue the living shit out of the school for every damn dime they have, and then the district for every dime they have. Let them know that you will accept only 1/2 the settlement IF the entire PTA board, the security guards, and the principal is fired with prejudice.

Demand the security guards are charged under the "color of law" provision in title 10, USC, if they were armed and deprived you of civil rights, that comes with a 10-year felony conviction.

The case may never see a courtroom, but it may definitely see the arbitration room. Jobs and dollars and public apologies are there for the taking, vs. a lengthy court battle the school might not win anyway.

Also, since they recognized you by your job, and not as a parent, it shows clear discrimination and anti-military bias. Wonder if the Garrison Commander can put a school district on the "off limits" list?

Just my $6.02, adjusted for inflation to $.02.

Dave, the PTA didn't conduct the phone survey. It was done by the school principal. The lady in red is district PTA president - or some other useless position within the ignorant, backwards PTA.

I just watched the second video.

Are you sure you weren't at an ACORN meeting?

If the PTA has no input on school uniforms, why did they conduct the phone survey? Is the council member (lady in red) a member of the PTA?

Holy Cow! In ALL my years I have NEVER seen such ridiculous BS at a PTA meeting. Totally unbelievable and I am sooo glad you and Emily have removed your children from this absurdness. And if other parents are smart they will, too, or stay, if they have no other choice, and demand HUGE changes. I totally support you CJ and I never saw anywhere, where you were out of line or threatening, in any way! I'm still in shock over this. (Tho, I shouldn't be after the complete "bafoonerie" we also witnessed in Al. schools)
I agree with you 150%; It does NOT take a village..or should we say it SHOULDN'T take a village.
As far as uniforms, I have never been for them in public schools for a multitude of reasons..as for "their" argument about bullying...pffftttt....If a kid's a bully, do they seriously think a uniform is what's gonna change that? What a piss-poor excuse.
I was glad to read the Army IS being helpful to you? I sure hope so. I understand what happened in the hallway can't be discussed, but want to say, I sure hope Emily is ok. You and your family take care..and please continue to keep us posted...and any ways you might need any help.

It's apparent that this plan was cooking for quite some time. They made the decision last spring, worked it this summer, talked Breland into kicking in the 10k.

Debate didn't fit their agenda. Roberts Rules of Order was ignored with intent.
Sorry Principal Williams and PTA maven Thomas. You were dead wrong. Depositions, meetings with lawyers, hearings --they're not much fun but this is the net result of your machinations.

And what a shame. Now the PTA is stuck with figuring out how to pay for an attorney, because as a separate organization, they are not covered by the school district's attorneys.

Did she seriously skip debate to go to a vote and then later argue about not knowing the bylaws and then complain that they couldn't even talk about the motion b/c it's on next year's agenda? WTF???

It comes off like a classic case of forgetting what you're talking about and justing wanting to win!
