CJ Armour of God

November 1st, 2009 by CJ

When I became a platoon sergeant about 10 years ago, my father – a retired Navy Command Master Chief – told me, "As long you're always doing the right thing, you never have anything to worry about." He gave me that advice after I called him complaining about how one of my Soldiers kept filing EO complaints against me. You see, the previous platoon sergeant allowed the single parents to stay in garrison when they went to the field. I, on the other hand, didn't make those concessions. Soldiers have family care plans for a reason and it was unfair to allow single parents to stay back from field exercises while married and single Soldiers without kids had to spend weeks in the field. Naturally, none of the allegations were ever substantiated.

There's a scripture I've been leaning on for awhile, but especially recently that I want to share with you. It comes from Ephesians 6:11-17:

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feel shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

This scripture seems to explain exactly what I'm up against in defending myself from Huntsville City Schools and the PTA. I feel like I'm fighting the "wiles of the devil" in their lies to the Army. I'm wrestling with "rulers of the darkness of this world" and their "spiritual wickedness." They will not win because I have placed upon the whole armour of God. Everything I have done has been righteous, honest, and honorable. I have told the truth throughout this entire process, while the school officials have resorted to lies and personal attacks.

I'm thankful for the advice my dad gave me. I realize that just because these people are making my life difficult now, I will stand blameless before God. I will come out on top in the end. I "have nothing to worry about."

God Bless You and Your Dad CJ. He gave you the right advice. As long as we stay honest and truthful we have nothing to hide or worry about. We DO win in the end and THEY have to answer to their Maker just as you and I will.

As the wife of a Pastor, this is a section of scripture that we lean on heavily. When things got tough at our last congregation, I gave my husband the same advice; do what you feel is right and let the chips fall where they may. Things may get unpleasant for a while buy God will bring you through it.

That's one of my favorite scriptures also, CJ. You are not fighting against flesh and blood only so you can rest assured that God will fight your battle. Hang in there and things will work out for the better!

  4. Kat in GA says:

Yep, one of my favorite passages as well. Remember we are not warring "just" against flesh and blood – there's a spiritual enemy who's ultimately behind it all. Prayer is one of (if not THE) greatest weapon in addition to all the other, natural stuff we do.

Do the right thing, keep yerself prayed up, and remember God is walking with you every step of the way, come hell or high water.

That is the best thing about dads……..they give great advice.

When you always tell the truth, you have nothing to hide. Too bad the PTA is covering their tracks.

    Right on!!!

  7. Linda says:

My Mom always said God never puts on us more than we can bear. Hang in there CJ you will be victorious

The 'armour of God.' Just thought of it the other day and meant to look it up. Thanks for this. I'm a new reader. Ironically, the first entry I read turned up a coincidence. I have an acquaintance who was in the company that was rescued by the Alpha Troop that received the PUC recently. Apparently, one of the few surviving members of the rescued company is working on a memoir.
